कटुक पदार्थ और लाल मिर्च आदि तीखे पदार्थ उनके अन्य कोमल अंगों पर छिड़के जाते हैं। इस प्रकार सैकड़ों उपायों द्वारा बहुत-सी यातनाएँ वे भोगते रहते हैं। __(इतने से ही गनीमत कहाँ ?) उनकी छाती पर वजनदार काठ रखकर जोर से दबाने अथवा मारने से उनकी हड्डियाँ भग्न हो जाती हैं-पसली-पसली ढीली पड़ जाती है। मछली पकड़ने के काँटे के समान घातक काले लोहे के नोंकदार डण्डे छाती, पेट, गुदा और पीठ में भोंक देने से वे अत्यन्त पीड़ा से तड़फने लगते हैं। ऐसी-ऐसी यातनाएँ पहुँचाने के कारण अदत्तादान करने वालों का हृदय मथ दिया जाता है और उनके अंग-प्रत्यंग चूर-चूर कर दिये जाते हैं। ___ कोई-कोई चोर जिन्होंने कोई बड़ा अपराध नहीं किया है, फिर भी वैर-भाव रखने वाले सिपाही या कारागार के कर्मचारी यमदूतों के समान उनको मारते-पीटते हैं। इस प्रकार कारागार में अभागे-मन्दपुण्य चोरों को थप्पड़ों, मुक्कों, चर्मपट्टों, लोहे के कुशों, लोहमय तीक्ष्ण शस्त्रों, चाबुकों, लातों, मोटे रस्सों और बेंतों के सैकड़ों प्रहारों से अंग-अंग को प्रताड़ित करके पीड़ित किये जाते हैं। शरीर पर लटकती हुई चमड़ी पर हुए घावों की वेदना से वे बेचारे चोर दिग्मूढ़ बन जाते हैं। लोहे के घनों से कूट-कूटकर बनायी हुई दोनों बेड़ियों को पहनाये रखने के कारण उनके अंग सिकुड़ जाते हैं, मुड़ जाते हैं और शिथिल पड़ जाते हैं। यहाँ तक कि उनको मल-मूत्र त्याग भी नहीं करने देते। अथवा उन्हें बोलने भी नहीं दिया जाता है अर्थात् उनकी बोली भी बन्द कर दी जाती है। उनका चलना-फिरना रोक दिया जाता है। ये और इसी प्रकार की अन्यान्य वेदनाएँ वे अदत्तादान का पाप करने वाले पापी भोगते हैं।
72. [Q.] The thieves are chained in various ways. What are those ways? __ [Ans.] One foot of the thief is trapped in wooden block. They are chained in iron fetters. They are bound with rope made of hair or with a special type wood which has a noose of rope at one end. They are tied with thick rope made of leather. They are tied with iron bars and handcuffs. They are tied with leather belts. Their feet are tied with rope. They are tied with nishkotan-a special type of bondage. They are troubled and tortured by the cruel jail officials with such bondage and in many other ways.
Not just this, those sinning prisoners charged with theft are squeezed, bent and tied like that. These thieves are confined and tortured by cruel jailers in many way including-putting in isolation chambers and locking, putting in an iron cage, locking them in an underground cell, suspending them in a deep well, tying them to iron bars, nailing their body-parts, tying them under a yoke (harnessing them
