5 उपधि - पद UPADHI-PAD (SEGMENT OF MEANS OF SUSTENANCE)

९४. तिविहे उवही पण्णत्ते, तं जहा- कम्मोवही, सरीरोवही, बाहिर भंडमत्तोवही । एवं असुरकुमाराणं भाणियव्वं । एवं - एगिंदियणेरइयवज्जं जाव वेमाणियाणं ।
अहवा, तिविहे उवही पण्णत्ते, तं जहा - सचित्ते, अचित्ते, मीसए। एवं- णेरइयाणं णिरंतरं जाव वेमाणियाणं
।
९४. उपधि तीन प्रकार की है - (१) कर्म-उपधि, (२) शरीर - उपधि, और (३) वस्त्र - पात्र आदि

बाह्य - उपधि । यह तीनों प्रकार की उपधि एकेन्द्रियों और नारकों को छोड़कर असुरकुमारों से लेकर वैमानिक पर्यन्त सभी दण्डकों में होती है।
अथवा उपधि तीन प्रकार की है - ( 9 ) सचित्त, (२) अचित्त, और (३) मिश्र । तीनों प्रकार की उपधि नैरयिकों से लेकर वैमानिकों पर्यन्त सभी दंडकों में जानना चाहिए।
94. Upadhi (means of sustenance) is of three kinds – ( 1 ) karma
upadhi (karma as means of sustenance), (2) sharira-upadhi (body as means of sustenance), and (3) bahya-upadhi (external means of sustenance, such as garb, bowls etc.). Leaving aside one-sensed beings
and infernal beings these three kinds of means of sustenance are
applicable to beings belonging to all dandaks (places of suffering) from Asur Kumars to Vaimanik gods.
Also upadhi (means of sustenance) is of three kinds - - ( 1 ) sachitt (living), (2) achitt (non-living), and (3) mishra (mixed). These three kinds
of means of sustenance are applicable to all beings belonging to all dandaks (places of suffering) from infernal beings to Vaimanik gods.
विवेचन - जिसके द्वारा जीव और शरीर आदि का पोषण होता हो, उसे उपधि कहते हैं । नैरयिक
5 और एकेन्द्रिय जीव के बाह्य-उपकरणरूप उपधि नहीं होती है। अतः यहाँ उनका निषेध किया है।
Elaboration-That which helps sustain or nurture a being or a body is called upadhi. There is no scope of garb or utensils or any other outside thing in cash of infernal beings and one-sensed beings. Therefore they are excluded here.
