(SEGMENT OF DARKNESS, LIGHT ETC.) ७२. तिहिं ठाणेहिं लोगंधयारे सिया, तं जहा-अरहंतेहिं वोच्छिज्जमाणेहिं, अरहंत पण्णत्ते धम्मे वोच्छिज्जमाणे, पुबगते वोच्छिज्जमाणे। ७३. तिहिं ठाणेहिं लोगुज्जोते सिया, तं जहाअरहंतेहिं जायमाणेहिं, अरहंतेहिं पव्वयमाणेहिं, अरहंताणं णाणुप्पायमहिमासु।
७२. तीन कारणों से मनुष्यलोक में अंधकार होता है-(१) अरहंतों के विच्छेद (निर्वाण) होने पर, (२) अर्हत-प्ररूपित धर्म के विच्छेद होने पर, और (३) चतुर्दश पूर्वगत श्रुत के विच्छेद होने पर। ७३. तीन कारणों से मनुष्यलोक में उद्योत (प्रकाश) होता है-(१) अरहन्तों (तीर्थंकरों) का जन्म होने पर, (२) अरहन्तों के प्रवजित होने के अवसर पर, और (३) अरहन्तों के केवलज्ञान उत्पन्न होने की महिमा के अवसर पर।

There are three reasons for spread of darkness in manushyalok (human realm or the land inhabited by humans)-(1) on vichchhed (extinction or nirvana) of Arihants (Tirthankars), (2) on vichchhed (extinction) of the religion propagated by Arhat, and (3) on vichchhed (extinction) of Purvagat Shrut (the subtle canon). 73.
