270. In Jambu continent there are two areas (land masses) east and west of the Mandar or Meru mountain-Purva Videh (in the east) and
5 Apar Videh (in the west). These two land masses have the same area. There is not much difference in terms of cities, rivers etc. In terms of time cycle or weather cycle there is hardly any difference. In terms of length, breadth, circumference and other physical parameters also they are same. २७१. जंबुद्दीवे दीवे मंदरस्स पव्वयस्स उत्तर - दाहिणे णं दो कुराओ पण्णत्ताओबहुसमतुल्लाओ जाव देवकुरा चेव, उत्तरकुरा चेव ।
तत्थ णं दो महतिमहालया महादुमा पण्णत्ता - बहुसमतुल्ला अविसेसमणाणत्ता अण्णमण्णं णाइवति आयाम - विक्खंभुच्चत्तोव्वेह - संठाण - परिणाहेणं, तं जहा - कूडसामली चेव, जंबू चेव सुदंसणा । तत्थ णं दो देवा महिड्डिया महज्जुइया महाणुभागा महायसा महाबला महासोक्खा पलि ओवमद्वितीया परिवसंति, तं जहा - गरुले चेव वेणुदेवे अणाढिते चेव जंबुद्दीवाहिवती । २७१. जम्बूद्वीप द्वीप में मन्दर पर्वत के उत्तर और दक्षिण में दो कुरु हैं- उत्तर उत्तरकुरु और दक्षिण में देवकुरु । ये दोनों क्षेत्र प्रमाण आदि की दृष्टि से सर्वथा सदृश हैं और परिधि की अपेक्षा एक-दूसरे के समान है।

देवकुरु में कूटशाल्मली और उत्तरकुरु में सुदर्शन जम्बू नाम के दो अति विशाल महावृक्ष हैं ।
वे दोनों प्रमाण की दृष्टि से सर्वथा सदृश हैं, उनमें परस्पर कोई विशेषता नहीं है, कालचक्र के परिवर्तन की दृष्टि से उनमें कोई भिन्नता नहीं है, वे लम्बाई, चौड़ाई, ऊँचाई, गहराई, संस्थान और परिधि की अपेक्षा एक-दूसरे का अतिक्रमण नहीं करते हैं ।
उन पर महान् ऋद्धि वाले, महाद्युति वाले, महाशक्ति वाले, महायश वाले, महाबल वाले, महासौख्य वाले और एक पल्योपम की स्थिति वाले दो देव रहते हैं - कूटशाल्मली वृक्ष पर सुपर्णकुमार जाति का गरुड़ वेणुदेव और सुदर्शन जम्बूवृक्ष पर जम्बूद्वीप का अधिपति अनादृतदेव ।
271. In Jambu continent there are two areas called Kurus-north and south of the Mandar or Meru mountain-Uttar Kuru (North Kuru in the north) and Dev Kuru (Dev Kuru in the south). These two land masses have the same area and other physical parameters.
There are two gigantic trees, one in Dev Kuru called Koot-shalmali and the other in Uttar Kuru called Sudarshan Jambu. These two trees have exactly same size. There is not much difference in terms of seasonal changes. In terms of length, breadth, height, depth, structure and circumference they do not overlap each other.
On these trees reside two gods having great wealth, great radiance, great power, great fame, great strength, great happiness and life span
