३. तस्स णं उसभदत्तमाहणस्स देवाणंदा नामं माहणी होत्था, सुकुमालपाणि-पाया जाव पियदंसणा के सुरूवा समणोवासिया अभिगयजीवाजीवा उवलद्धपुण्ण-पावा जाव विहरइ।
३. उस ऋषभदत्त ब्राह्मण की देवानन्दा नाम की ब्राह्मणी (धर्मपत्नी) थी। उसके हाथ-पैर सुकुमाल 5 थे, यावत् उसका दर्शन भी प्रिय था। उसका रूप सुन्दर था। वह श्रमणोपासिका थी, जीव-अजीव आदि तत्त्वों की जानकार थी तथा पुण्य-पाप का मर्म समझने वाली थी यावत् विहरण करती थी।
3. That Brahmin Rishabh-datt had a wife named Devananda. Her limbs were delicate ... and so on up to... she was charming and beautiful. She was a devotee of Shramans, understood the fundamental entities including soul and matter, and very much aware of the basics about virtues and vices, ... and so on up to... She spent her life enkindling (bhaavit) her soul (with ascetic religion and austerities).
विवेचन : वैशाली के निकट कुण्डपुर नामक छोटा नगर था, जिसके दो उपनगर थे। पश्चिम दिशा में क्षत्रियकुण्ड जो क्षत्रियों का मुख्य केन्द्र था, वहाँ राजा सिद्धार्थ रहते थे। दूसरा पूर्व में ब्राह्मणकुण्ड, जहाँ ब्राह्मणों की अधिक संख्या थी।
इस वर्णन से ज्ञात होता है कि ऋषभदत्त पहले ब्राह्मण-संस्कृति का अनुगामी रहा होगा, साथ ही अपने समाज का मुखिया धनाढ्य भी था। वह चारों वेदों का ज्ञाता तथा अन्य अनेक ब्राह्मण-ग्रन्थों का विद्वान् था। ॥ किन्त बाद में भगवान पार्श्वनाथ के सन्तानीय मनियों के सम्पर्क से वह श्रमणोपासक बना। श्रमणधर्म का तत्त्व हुआ।
Elaboration - Kundapur was a small township near Vaishali. It had two suburbs. The eastern suburb was the main center of Kshatriyas (the warrior clans) and was called Kshatriyakund. King Siddharth lived there. The western suburb had a larger population of Brahmins (the priestly clans) and was called Brahmankund.
The aforesaid description informs that originally Rishabh-datt must have been a follower of Brahmin culture. He was also rich and prominent En in his society. He was a scholar of the four Vedas and many other Brahmin scriptures. But later he must have come in contact with the ascetic followers of Bhagavan Parshvanaath and embraced the Shraman religion. In due course he became a scholar of Shraman religion. भगवान की सेवा में वन्दना-पर्युपासनादि के लिए जाने का निश्चय DECISION TO PAY HOMAGE TO BHAGAVAN MAHAVIR
४. तेणं कालेणं तेणं समएणं सामी समोसढे । परिसा जाव पज्जुवासति।
४. उस काल और उस समय में (श्रमण भगवान महावीर) स्वामी वहाँ पधारे। समवसरण लगा। परिषद् यावत् पर्युपासना करने लगी।
