(पात्र में) डाला जाता हुआ पदार्थ, ‘नहीं डाला गया'; ऐसा कथन है; इसलिए हे आर्यो ! तुमको दिया 卐 जाता हुआ पदार्थ, जब तक पात्र में नहीं पड़ा, तब तक बीच में से ही कोई उसका अपहरण कर ले तो
तुम कहते हो- 'वह उस गृहपति के पदार्थ का अपहरण हुआ'; 'तुम्हारे पदार्थ का अपहरण हुआ', ऐसा ॐ तुम नहीं कहते। इस कारण से तुम अदत्त का ग्रहण करते हो, यावत् अदत्त की अनुमति देते हो; अतः तुम अदत्त का ग्रहण करते हुए यावत् एकान्तबाल हो।
8. [Ans.] The heretics replied to the senior ascetics-Noble ones ! According to you, things in process of being given are said to be ‘not given', things in process of being accepted are said to be 'not accepted', and things being poured in a bowl are said to be ‘not poured'. As such
while being poured if a thing is snatched away by someone, you say - ॐ "The thing belonging to the householder has been snatched away." You
do not say-"My thing has been snatched away.” That is the reason we say that you accept things not given to you (adatt) ... and so on up to ... you allow accepting things not given to you. This way as you accept what is not given ... and so on up to ... are complete ignorant (ekaant baal).
९. तए णं ते थेरा भगवंतो ते अनउत्थिए एवं वयासी-नो खलु अज्जो ! अम्हे अदिनं गिण्हामो, ॐ अदित्रं भुंजामो, अदिन्नं सातिजामो, अम्हे णं अज्जो ! दिनं गेण्हामो, दिन्नं भुंजामो, दिनं सातिजामो, तए मणं अम्हे दिन्नं गेण्हमाणा दिन्नं भुंजमाणा दिन्नं सातिजमाणा तिविहं तिविहेणं संजय-विरय-पडिहय जहा ॐ सत्तमसए (स. ७, उ. २, सु. १ [ २ ]) जाव एगंतपंडिया यावि भवामो।
९. [ प्रतिवाद ] यह सुनकर उन स्थविर भगवन्तों ने उन अन्यतीर्थिकों से इस प्रकार कहा-'आर्यो ! ॐ हम अदत्त का ग्रहण नहीं करते, न अदत्त को खाते हैं और न ही अदत्त की अनुमति देते हैं। हे आर्यो !
हम तो दत्त (स्वामी द्वारा दिये गये) पदार्थ को ग्रहण करते हैं. दत्त भोजन को खाते हैं और दत्त की
अनुमति देते हैं। इसलिए हम दत्त का ग्रहण करते हुए, दत्त का भोजन करते हुए और दत्त की अनुमति + देते हुए त्रिविध-त्रिविध संयत, विरत, पापकर्म के प्रतिनिरोधक, पापकर्म का प्रत्याख्यान किये हुए हैं। मजिस प्रकार सप्तमशतक (द्वितीय उद्देशक, सू. १) में कहा है, तदनुसार हम यावत् एकान्तपण्डित हैं।' 4 9. given to us and we do not allow accepting (etc.) of things not given to us. Noble ones ! In fact, we accept things given to us (datt), we eat things
given to us and we allow accepting (etc.) of things given to us. Thus as 4i we accept what is given, eat what is given and allow to take what is 5 given, we observe restraint (samyat), observe detachment (virat), and
observe control on as well as renunciation of sinful indulgence (pratihat and pratyakhyan) through three means (karan) and three methods (as
