[Ans.] Yes, Gautam ! A person with finite cognition (chhadmasth) 5
hears the sound of the aforesaid musical instruments, such as-sound of

Shankh (conch-shell)... and so on up to... sound of shushir (wind instruments) being played.
२. [ प्र. ] ताई भंते ! किं पुट्ठाई सुणेति ? अपुट्ठाई सुणेति ?
[उ.] गोयमा ! पुट्ठाई सुणेति, नो अपुट्ठाई सुणेति, जाव णियमा छद्दिसिं सुणेति ।
२. [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! क्या वह (छद्मस्थ) उन ( पूर्वोक्त वाद्यों के) शब्दों को स्पृष्ट होने (कानों से स्पर्श
किये जाने - टकराने) पर सुनता है, या अस्पृष्ट होने (कानों से स्पर्श न करने-न टकराने पर भी सुन लेता है ?

[उ.] गौतम ! छद्मस्थ मनुष्य ( उन वाद्यों) के स्पृष्ट (कानों से स्पर्श किये गए - टकराए हुए) शब्दों सुनता है, अस्पृष्ट शब्दों को नहीं सुनता; यावत् नियम से पूर्वादि छह दिशाओं से आए हुए स्पृष्ट शब्दों सुनता है।
2. [Q.] Bhante ! Does he (a chhadmasth) hear only those sounds (of the said instruments) that strike his ears (sprisht)? Or does he hear even those that do not strike (asprisht) ?
[Ans.] Gautam! He (a chhadmasth) hears only those sounds (of the said instruments) that strike his ears (sprisht) and not those that do not strike.... and so on up to... as a rule he hears sound coming from all the six directions.
३. [ प्र. ] छउमत्थे णं भंते! मणुस्से किं आरगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ ? पारगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ ?
[उ.] गोयमा ! आरगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ, नो पारगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ ।
३ . [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! क्या छद्मस्थ मनुष्य आरगत (इन्द्रिय विषय की सीमा में आये हुए) शब्दों को सुनता है, अथवा पारगत (इन्द्रिय विषय से दूर रहे हुए) शब्दों को सुनता है ?
[उ. ] गौतम ! (छद्मस्थ मनुष्य ) आरगत शब्दों को सुनता है, किन्तु पारगत शब्दों को नहीं सुन पाता ।
3. [Q.] Bhante ! Does he (a chhadmasth) hear only those sounds that are within the range of his sense organs (aargat)? Or does he hear even those that are beyond the range of his sense organs (paargat)?
[Ans.] Gautam! He (a chhadmasth) hears only those sounds that are within the range of his sense organs (aargat) and not those that are beyond the range of his sense organs (paargat).
४. [प्र.१ ] जाणं भंते ! छउमत्थे मणुस्से आरगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ, नो पारगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ, तहा णं भंते ! केवली किं आरगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ, नो पारगयाई सद्दाई सुणेइ ?
