23. [Q.] Bhante ! After leaving this body at the time of death where did Varun Naag-naptrik's dear childhood friend go. Where was he
reborn?
[Ans.] He has taken rebirth in a noble family in the land of humans. २४. [प्र.] से णं भंते! तओहिंतो अनंतरं उवट्टित्ता कहिं गच्छिहिति ? कहिं उववज्जिहिति ? [उ. ] गोयमा ! महाविदेहे वासे सिज्झिहिति जाव अंतं काहिति ।
सेवं भंते ! सेवं भंते ! ति० ।
| सत्तम सए : नवमो उद्देसो समत्तो ॥
२४. [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! वह ( वरुण का बालमित्र) वहाँ से (आयु आदि का क्षय होने पर) काल करके कहाँ जायेगा ? कहाँ उत्पन्न होगा ?
[ उ. ] गौतम ! वह भी महाविदेह क्षेत्र में जन्म लेकर सिद्ध होगा, यावत् सर्वदुःखों का अन्त करेगा । 'हे भगवन् ! यह इसी प्रकार है, भगवन् ! यह इसी प्रकार है', यों कहकर गौतम स्वामी यावत् विचरने लगे ।
24. [Q.] Bhante ! After concluding his life-span... and so on up to ... where will he (Varun's friend) go? Where will he reincarnate?
[Ans.] Gautam ! He will also reincarnate in Mahavideh area... and so on up to... become perfect (Siddha )... and so on up to... and end all miseries.
"Bhante! Indeed that is so. Indeed that is so." With these words... and so on up to... ascetic Gautam resumed his activities.
विवेचन : निष्कर्ष - रथमूसल संग्राम में ९६ लाख मनुष्य मारे गये। उनमें से एक वरुण नागनत्तुआ देवलोक में गया और उसका बालमित्र मनुष्यगति में गया, शेष सभी प्रायः नरक या तिर्यंचगति में उत्पन्न हुए।
॥ सप्तम शतक : नवम उद्देशक समाप्त ।।
Elaboration-In the Rath-musal battle 9.6 million people were killed. Of these only one (Varun) was reborn in divine realm, one (Varun's friend) in the land of humans and most of the remaining were reborn as infernal beings or animals.
