[12] A dear childhood friend of Varun Naag-naptrik was also fighting in the Rath-musal battle. He also got wounded by a strong strike from an 5 adversary. He lost his strength, power, potency, will and valour. He too realized that he will not last long. When he saw Varun Naag-naptrik leaving the Rath-musal battle, he also turned the chariot and left the battle ground. He proceeded to the spot where Varun Naag-naptrik had y released the horses and stopped his chariot and released the horses. Now y he made a bed of hay and sat on it in Paryank posture facing east. Joining his palms he uttered-"Bhante! Like my dear friend Varun Y Naag-naptrik, I too accept the same vows of conduct, ascetic-discipline, renunciation, critical review and fasting. He removed his armour and 5 pulled out the arrow from his body... and so on up to ... passed away after 5 attaining the state of total tranquillity of mind.

[१३] तए णं तं वरुणं नागणत्तुयं कालगयं जाणित्ता अहासन्निहितेहिं वाणमंतरेहिं देवेहिं दिव्वे 4 सुरभिगंधोदगवासे बुट्टे, दसद्धवण्णे कुसुमे निवाडिए, दिव्वे य गीयगंधव्वनिनादे कते यावि होत्था।

[१४] “तए णं तस्स वरुणस्स नागनत्तुयस्स तं दिव्वं देविडं दिव्वं देवजुई दिव्वं देवाणुभागं सुणित्ता 5 य पासित्ता य बहुजणो अन्नमन्नस्स एवमाइक्खइ जाव परूवेति - एवं खलु देवाणुप्पिया ! बहवे मणुस्सा जाव उववत्तारो भवति ।"
[ १४ ] “तब से उस वरुण नागनत्तुआ की उस दिव्य देव ऋद्धि, दिव्य देव द्युति और दिव्य देवप्रभाव को सुनकर और जानकर बहुत से लोग परस्पर इस प्रकार कहने लगे, यावत् प्ररूपणा करने लगे 5 कि- 'देवानुप्रियो ! जो संग्राम करते हुए बहुत से मनुष्य मरते हैं, यावत् वे देवलोकों में उत्पन्न होते हैं।"
[१३] तदनन्तर उस वरुण नागनत्तुआ को कालधर्म प्राप्त हुआ जानकर निकटवर्ती वाणव्यन्तर देवों ने उस पर सुगन्धित जल की वृष्टि की, पाँच वर्ण के फूल बरसाए और दिव्य गीत एवं गन्धर्व - 5 निनाद भी किया।

[13] Knowing that Varun Naag-naptrik had breathed his last, Vaanavyantar gods residing nearby sprinkled perfumed water and five coloured flowers on him. They also sang divine songs and produced sound from divine musical instruments.

[14] Then having seen the divine opulence, radiance and influence of 5 Varun Naag-naptrik, many people started saying... and so on up to... propagating that-"Beloved of gods! Many people die fighting in some

war... and so on up to... they are reborn as gods in any of the divine f realms."
