to... sixth, many mobile beings, ... and so on up to... they all undergo involuntary experience of pain. (This is because they are devoid of will.)
२५. [प्र. ] अस्थि णं भंते ! पभू वि अकामनिकरण वेदणं वेदेति ? [उ. ] हंता, गोयमा ! अत्थि।
२५. [प्र. ] भगवन् ! क्या ऐसा होता है कि समर्थ होते हुए भी जीव, अकामनिकरण (अज्ञानपूर्वक-अनिच्छापूर्वक) वेदना को वेदते हैं ?
[उ.] हाँ, गौतम ! वेदते हैं।
25. [Q.] Bhante ! Is it possible that even when they are capable (endowed with sentience) they undergo involuntary experience of pain ?
[Ans.) Yes, Gautam ! They do. २६. [प्र. ] कहं णं भंते ! पभू वि अकामनिकरणं वेदणं वेदेति ?
[उ. ] गोयमा ! जे णं णो पभू विणा पदीवेणं अंधकारंसि रूवाई पासित्तए, जे णं नो पभू पुरतो रूवाइं अणिज्झाइत्ता णं पासित्तए, जे णं नो पभू मग्गओ रूवाई अणवयक्खित्ता णं पासित्तए, जे णं नो पभू पासओ रूवाई अणवलोएत्ता णं पासित्तए, जे णं नो पभू उड्ढं रूवाई अणालोएत्ता णं पासित्तए, जे णं नो पभू अहे रूवाई अणालोएत्ता णं पासित्तए, एस णं गोयमा ! पभू वि अकामनिकरणं वेदणं वेदेति।
२६. [प्र. ] भगवन् ! समर्थ होते हुए भी जीव, अकामनिकरण वेदना को कैसे वेदते हैं ?
[उ.] गौतम ! जो जीव समर्थ होते हुए भी अन्धकार में दीपक के बिना पदार्थों को देखने में समर्थ नहीं होते, जो अवलोकन किये बिना सम्मुख रहे हुए पदार्थों को देख नहीं सकते; अवेक्षण किये बिना पीठ के पीछे के भाग को नहीं देख सकते, अवलोकन किये बिना अगल-बगल के (पार्श्व भाग के दोनों ओर के) रूपों को नहीं देख सकते, आलोकन किये बिना ऊपर के रूपों को नहीं देख सकते और न आलोकन किये बिना नीचे के रूपों को देख सकते हैं, इसी प्रकार गौतम ! ये जीव समर्थ होते हुए भी अकामनिकरण वेदना वेदते हैं।
26. Bhante ! In spite of being capable (endowed with sentience) why do they undergo involuntary experience of pain ? ___ [Ans.] Gautam ! Those beings who, although capable (prabhu), are not able to see things in dark without the help of a lamp, who are not able to see things in front without looking (directly) at them, who are not able to see things in the rear without turning, who are not able to see things at their flanks without looking (directly) at them, who are not able to see things above without looking (directly) at them and who are
