ॐ [उ. ] गौतम ! (परभव में जाता हुआ) जीव, प्रथम समय में कदाचित् आहारक होता है और ई + कदाचित् अनाहारक होता है; द्वितीय समय में भी कदाचित् आहारक और कदाचित् अनाहारक होता है,
तृतीय समय में भी कदाचित् आहारक और कदाचित् अनाहारक होता है; परन्तु चौथे समय में अवश्य आहारक होता है। [२] इसी प्रकार नैरयिक आदि चौबीस ही दण्डकों में कहना चाहिए। सामान्य जीव
और एकेन्द्रिय ही चौथे समय में आहारक होते हैं। इनके सिवाय शेष जीव, तीसरे समय में आहारक होते हैं।

3. [Q. 1] Bhante ! When does a soul (while going to its next birth) remain without food intake (anahaarak)?
[Ans.] Gautam ! At the first moment (Samaya) (while going to its next birth) a soul sometimes remains with food intake (ahaarak) and sometimes without food intake; at the second Samaya also it sometimes remains with food intake and sometimes without food intake; at the
third Samaya too it sometimes remains with food intake and sometimes f without food intake; but at the fourth Samaya it is necessarily with food
intake. [2] The same should be repeated for all twenty four Dandaks (places of suffering) including infernal beings. Jiva (in general) and onesensed beings become ahaarak (with food intake) at the fourth Samaya. All the remaining living beings become ahaarak at the third Samaya.
४. [प्र. १ ] जीवे णं भंते ! कं समयं सवप्पाहारए भवति ? 1 [उ.] गोयमा ! पढमसमयोववन्नए वा, चरमसमयभवत्थे वा, एत्थ णं जीवे सबप्पाहारए भवति। [२] दंडओ भाणियव्वो जाव वेमाणियाणं।
४. [प्र. १ ] भगवन् ! जीव किस समय में सबसे अल्प आहार लेता है ? # [उ. ] गौतम ! उत्पत्ति के प्रथम समय में अथवा भव (जीवन) के अन्तिम समय में जीव । सबसे अल्प आहार वाला होता है। [२] वैमानिक पर्यन्त चौबीस ही दण्डकों में इसी प्रकार कहना चाहिए।
4. [Q. 1] Bhante ! When does a jiva (soul; living being) have least intake of food ?
(Ans.) Gautam ! A jiva (soul; living being) has least intake of food at E the first Samaya of its birth or the last Samaya of a life-span. [2] The i same should be repeated for all twenty four Dandaks (places of suffering) _up to Vaimanik.
