outer seas (beyond Adhai Dveep) are full, filled to capacity (with level and serene waters) filled to the brim, splashing like a filled pitcher. They
are similar in shape but different in size or double the preceding one in 4 size... and so on up to... In this transverse world there are innumerable 4
such islands and seas, the last one being Svayambhuraman sea. O long
lived one! This is what is said about islands and seas. ॐ विवेचन : असंख्यात द्वीप समुद्र-मध्यलोक में असंख्य द्वीप तथा असंख्य समुद्र हैं। उनमें प्रथम लवण-समुद्र है ॥ 5 और सबसे अन्त में स्वयंभूरमण-समुद्र है। लवण-समुद्र में जल-स्तर ऊपर उछलता है और उसका जल क्षुब्ध
रहता है। उसमें ज्वार-भाटा आता रहता है। उसमें वर्षा होती रहती है। समय-क्षेत्र के बाह्यवर्ती समुद्रों का ॐ जल-स्तर सम रहता है। उनमें वर्षा नहीं होती तथा ज्वार-भाटा नहीं आता। उनमें उदक योनिक जीव और " पुद्गल उदक रूप में उत्पन्न होते रहते हैं. विनष्ट होते रहते हैं।
Elaboration In the middle or transverse world there are innumerable islands and seas. First of these is Lavan Samudra and the last one is Svayambhuraman sea. The waters in the Lavan Samudra are surging and turbulent. It has ebb and tide as well as rains. The seas beyond the area of time (Adhai Dveep), where humans live, have level and serene
water. There are neither rains nor ebb and tide. In these seas water 4 bodies and matter particles continue to be created and destroyed. ॐ द्वीप समुद्रों के शुभ नाम NAMES OF ISLANDS AND SEAS
३६. [प्र. ] दीव-समुद्दा णं भंते ! केवइया नामधेजेहिं पण्णत्ता ?
[उ. ] गोयमा ! जावइया लोए सुभा नामा, सुभा रूवा, सुभा गंधा, सुभा रसा, सुभा फासा एवइयाणं दीव-समुद्दा नामधेजेहिं पण्णत्ता। एवं नेयव्वा सुभा नामा, उद्धारो परिणामो सव्वजीवाणं। सेवं भंते ! सेवं भंते ! त्ति०।
॥छटे सए : अट्ठमो उद्देसओ समत्तो ॥ ३६. [प्र. ] भगवन् ! द्वीप-समुद्रों के कितने नाम हैं ?
[उ. ] गौतम ! इस लोक में जितने भी शुभ नाम हैं, शुभ रूप, शुभ रस, शुभ गन्ध और शुभ स्पर्श हैं, उतने ही नाम द्वीप-समुद्रों के हैं। इस प्रकार सब द्वीप-समुद्र शुभ नाम वाले जानने चाहिए। तथा + उद्धार, परिणाम और सर्व जीवों का (द्वीपों एवं समुद्रों में) उत्पाद जानना चाहिए।
____ हे भगवन् ! यह इसी प्रकार है, भगवन् ! यह इसी प्रकार है'; यों कहकर यावत् श्री गौतम स्वामी फ़ विचरण करने लगे। | भगवती सूत्र (२)
