[1-Q. 8] Bhante ! Infernal beings fructify (udirana) the ingested matter in the form of taijas (fiery) particles and karman (karmic) particles; do they fructify the particles ingested in the past or those being ingested at present or those to be ingested in future (or related to the future in terms of fructification)?
(Ans.) Gautam ! They fructify (udirana) the matter particles ingested in the past but not those being ingested at present or those to be infested in future. The same (like ingesting) is also true for vedan (experiencing or suffering the consequences) and nirjara (separating from soul or shedding).
[१-प्र. ९ ] नेरइयाणं भंते ! जीवाओ किं चलियं कम्मं बंधंति ? अचलियं कम्मं बंधंति ?
[उ. ] गोयमा ! नो चलियं कम्मं बंधति, अचलियं कम्मं बंधति १। एवं उदीरेंति २ वेदेति ३ उयटेंति ४ संकामेंति ५ निहत्तेति ६ णि कायेंति ७। सब्बेतु अचलियं, णोचलियं।
[१-प्र. ९ ] भगवन् ! क्या नारक जीवप्रदेशों से चलित कर्म को बाँधते हैं या अचलित (जीवप्रदेशों में स्थित) कर्म को बाँधते हैं ?
[उ. ] गौतम ! (वे) (१) चलित कर्म को नहीं बाँधते (किन्तु) अचलित कर्म को बाँधते हैं। इसी प्रकार (बंध के अनुसार ही वे) अचलित कर्म की (२) उदीरणा करते हैं, अचलित कर्म का ही (३) वेदन करते हैं, (४) अपवर्तन करते हैं, (५) संक्रमण करते हैं, (६) निधत्ति करते हैं, और (७) निकाचन करते हैं। इन सब पदों में अचलित (कर्म) कहना चाहिए, चलित (कर्म) नहीं। __ [1-Q.9] Bhante ! Do the infernal beings bind (bandh) the karma that has shifted (from soul) or the karma that has not shifted ? ___ [Ans.] Gautam ! (1) They do not bind the karma that has shifted (from soul) but only the karma that has not shifted. The same is also true for (2) fructifying (udirana), (3) experiencing (vedan), (4) reduction (apavartana), (5) transformation (sankramana), (6) partial intransigence (nidhatt), and (7) intransigence (nikachit). For all these the karma that has not shifted is applicable and not the karma that has shifted.
[१-प्र. १० ] नेरइयाणं भंते ! जीवाओ किं चलियं कम्मं निजरेंति ? अचलियं कम्मं निज्जरेंति ? [उ. ] गोयमा ! चलियं कम्मं निजरेंति, नो अचलियं कम्म निज्जरेंति ८। गाहा-बंधोदय-वेदोव्बट-संकमे तह निहत्तण-निकाए।
अचलियं कम्मं तु भवे चलितं जीवाउ निज्जरइ॥५॥ [१-प्र. १०] भगवन् ! क्या नारक जीवप्रदेश से चलित कर्म की निर्जरा करते हैं अथवा अचलित र्म की निर्जरा करते हैं?
