[उ. ] गोयमा ! असंखेज्जा ओगाहणाटाणा पण्णत्ता । तं जहा- जहन्निया ओगाहणा, पदेसाहिया जहन्निया ओगाहणा, दुप्पदेसाहिया जहन्निया ओगाहणा जाव असंखिज्जपदेसाहिया जहन्निया ओगाहणा, तप्पाग्गुक्कोसिया ओगाहणा ।
१०. [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! इस रत्नप्रभा पृथ्वी ( प्रथम नरकभूमि) के एक-एक नारकावास में रहने वाले नारकों के अवगाहना स्थान कितने हैं ?
[उ.] गौतम ! उनके अवगाहना स्थान असंख्यात हैं। वे इस प्रकार हैं- जघन्य अवगाहना ( अंगुल के असंख्यातवें भाग), एक प्रदेशाधिक जघन्य अवगाहना, द्विप्रदेशाधिक जघन्य अवगाहना, यावत् असंख्यात प्रदेशाधिक जघन्य अवगाहना, तथा उसके योग्य उत्कृष्ट अवगाहना (जिस नारकावास के योग्य जो उत्कृष्ट अवगाहना हो ) ।
10. [Q.] Bhante ! What are said to be the counts of avagahana (space occupied or physical dimension) of the infernal beings living in each of the thirty hundred thousand infernal abodes in this Ratnaprabha prithvi (first hell)?
[Ans.] Gautam ! They have innumerable counts. They are like this — minimum physical dimension (uncountable fraction of Angul), one Pradesh (space-point) more than the minimum, two Pradesh more than the minimum, and so on up to... innumerable Pradesh more than the minimum and a maximum depending on each specific abode. (all these together make innumerable counts of physical dimension)

११. [प्र.] इमीसे णं भंते ! रयणप्पभाए पुढवीए तीसाए निरयावाससयसहस्सेसु एगमेगंसि निरयावासंसि जहन्नियाए ओगाहणाए वट्टमाणा नेरतिया किं कोहोवउत्ता. ?
[उ.] गोयमा ! असीति भंगा भाणियव्वा, जाव संखिज्जपदेसाधिया जहन्निया ओगाहणा । असंखेज्जपदेसाहियाए जहन्नियाए ओगाहणाए वट्टमाणाणं तप्पउग्गुक्कोसियाए ओगाहणाए वट्टमाणाणं नेरइयाणं दो वि सत्तावीसं भंगा।
११. [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! इस रत्नप्रभा पृथ्वी के तीस लाख नारकावासों में से एक-एक नारकावास में जघन्य अवगाहना वाले नैरयिक क्या क्रोधोपयुक्त हैं, मानोपयुक्त हैं, मायोपयुक्त हैं अथवा लोभोपयुक्त हैं ?
[उ. ] गौतम ! जघन्य अवगाहना वालों में अस्सी भंग कहने चाहिए, यावत् संख्यात प्रदेश अधिक जघन्य अवगाहना वालों के भी अस्सी भंग कहने चाहिए। असंख्यात प्रदेश अधिक जघन्य अवगाहना वाले और उसके योग्य उत्कृष्ट अवगाहना वाले, इन दोनों प्रकार के नारकों में सत्ताईस भंग कहने चाहिए।
