JAMBŪDĪVAPANNATTI
The activities of the Sanskriti S. Samgha have received a very severe blow by the sad demise of its founder Brahmachari Jiva during the whole period of its functioning so far, was the Chairman of the Trust and of the Managing Committee, and kept a very vigilant watch on the progress of its work. He never allowed any slackness creeping into any sphere of its working, and tried to resolve every difficulty that came in the way, with the whole force of his moral power and material resources. With his death, a brilliant career of pious pursuits and unreserved charity in the cause of Jaina Culture, has come to an end. May his soul rest in peace, and may his example inspire the present and future generations of wealthy men to use their wealth for the right cause, so long as they are the masters of it! We welcome Seth Gulabchand Hirachand as our succeeding Chairman. As an old member of the Trust Committee, he was already well acquainted with the activities of the Sangha and had full sympathy for the same. We have no doubt that with the best co-operation of his colleagues on the Trust Board, he will not spare any pains to maintain the traditions built up by his noble predecessor.
We are now passing through very difficult and yet hopeful times : difficult because religious values are on the decline, sources of p are drying up, young men have more attraction for science and technology than for humanities, and, above all, destructive weapons are hovering over our heads, threatening to turn all intellect and culture into vapour any moment; hopeful, because, for those very reasons, a thought process has started wants to reverse the movement. Sober people in our country as well as the world over are turning their mind to old values for the safety of humanity, for the peace and prosperity of the world. In this process of thought, much strength can be derived from the message emanating from every page and every sentences of our ancient literature, the message of eternity of life and nature, and supremacy of spiritual values over material gains.
Let us hope that from this point of view not only this literature would continue to be studied, but more attention would be paid to bring to light what remains still hidden in the obscure corners of ancient Bhandars and temples. The great Indian Heritage has still to come in to its own.
In the end, we gratefully acknowledge our debt to all those institutions and persons who have, in one way or another, helped in the edition and publication of this volume. In particular, our best thanks are due to the members of the Board of Trustees and Managing Committee of the Sangha for their interest and zeal, the owners of the Mss. utilized here and the scholars who have co-operated with us in this task.
