अपने आपको गुणवान् कहते हैं। नाना कर्मों से धन को अर्जित कर, लाकर अपने घर में इकट्ठा कर, दिन से रहित घर से क्या? पण्डित से विहीन नगर से क्या, परस्त्रियों के नखों से क्षत उर-स्थल से क्या? चारित्र के अंश में श्रम से थक जाते हैं, मुँह फाड़कर आदमी सो जाते हैं। बढ़ रहा है घुरघुर शब्द जिनमें, ऐसी दोनों से रहित शास्त्र से क्या? पिता के चरणों के प्रतिकूल पुत्र से क्या? मन को सन्ताप पहुँचानेवाले त्याग से क्या? हवाएँ स्वेच्छा से नीचे और ऊपर के मार्गों से जाती रहती हैं, नींद से उनकी थकान दूर होती है, खल (खली) प्रिय को मुँह दिखानेवाले मान से क्या? अंकुश को नहीं माननेवाले गज से क्या? चाबुक को नहीं माननेवाले तो चर्वित होते-होते रस बन जाता है, लेकिन खाया हुआ आहार शरीर में परिणत होता है और श्लेष्म के अश्व से क्या? जिसका अपयश फैल रहा है ऐसे मनुष्य से क्या? रस से विगलित नृत्य से क्या? पंचेन्द्रियों साथ पित्त बन जाता है । सवेरे उठकर पुनः निःश्वास लेते हैं, और अपनी पत्नियों से कहते हैं कि धन की के वशीभूत पुत्र से क्या? प्रेम के परवश होनेवाले धूर्त से क्या? परवधू का रमण करनेवाले व्यक्ति से क्या? रक्षा किस प्रकार करें?
दूसरे की वधू से रमण करनेवाले परिजन से क्या? मोहान्धकारवाले गुरु से क्या? अविनय करनेवाले शिष्य घत्ता-डर के कारण किसी भी बलवान् की आज्ञा थर-थर काँपते हुए स्वीकार करते हैं। इस प्रकार से क्या? मीठा आलाप करनेवाले दुर्जन से क्या? धर्म से रहित जीवन से क्या? जिह्वा और मैथुन के रस का आस्वाद लेनेवाले जीव पापपूर्ण नरक में जाते हैं ॥१४॥
घत्ता-प्रसन्नमति स्वयंबुद्धि विद्याधरराज से आगे पुनः कहता है-“हे राजन्, धर्म का इतना सार है १५
कि पर अपने समान दिखाई दे जाये? ॥१५॥ धनरहित कुल से क्या? अपने स्वामी से रहित सेना से क्या? श्रेष्ठ जल से रहित सरोवर से क्या? सुकलत्र
