कवि ने काव्य के प्रारम्भ में कहा है कि मंत्री भरत ने मुझसे इस काव्य की रचना करवायी, इसी फाल्गुन शुक्ल १३ है। इस समय जोगिनीपुर (दिल्ली) के महादुर्ग पर सुल्तान आलम पातिसाह का प्रकार अन्त में भी स्पष्टरूप से स्वीकार किया है कि उसने मंत्री भरत' के अनुरोध पर नाना रस- राज था। तब 'पाल' नामक शुभस्थान में 'चौधरी राइमल' द्वारा महापुराण के आदि खंड की यह भावों से युक्त 'पद्धड़िया' छन्द में महापुराण की रचना की। पद्धड़िया उस युग में अपभ्रंश काव्यों प्रति लिखवाई गई। लेखनकार्य 'विश्नुदास' नाम के ब्राह्मण व्यक्ति के द्वारा किया गया और चित्र की विशेष-लोकप्रिय शैली थी। कवि महापुराण पूर्ण करने का श्रेय अपनी प्रतिभा को और मंत्री भरत 'हरिनाथ कायस्थ' और उसके परिवार द्वारा बनाये गये हैं। की उदारता को देते हैं। मंत्री भरत की त्यागशीलता पर कवि को बड़ा गर्व था। पुष्पदन्त ने अपने काव्य की प्रत्येक सन्धि के अन्त में अत्यन्त गौरव से 'भरत' के नाम के साथ 'महाभव्य' विशेषण

हैं। उनका अपभ्रंश पाठ' आदिपुराण' की ( भारतीय ज्ञानपीठ से) मुद्रित/प्रकाशित प्रति से साभार लिया
गया है। ऐतिहासिक महत्व की यह सचित्र पाण्डुलिपि अनुपम है, अद्वितीय है, अनूठी है। का यह महान ग्रन्थ उपलब्ध हो सका। 2. मंत्री नन्न

श्री (डॉ.) सुभाष कासलीवाल, मंत्री - श्री (डॉ.) समन्तभद्र पापड़ीवाल तथा अन्य सभी सदस्यों महाकवि 'महापुराण' की समाप्ति (अर्थात् ९६५ ई.) तक मंत्री भरत के ही आश्रय में थे किन्तु
के हम अत्यन्त आभारी हैं जिनके सौजन्य से यह पाण्डुलिपि प्रकाशन हेतु जैनविद्या संस्थान को प्राप्त 'णायकुमारचरिउ' की रचना के समय (९६६-९६८ ई. के बीच) वे मंत्री भरत के पुत्र नन्न के आश्रय
हुई। इस कार्य में बड़े मन्दिर की प्रबन्धकारिणी कमेटी की ओर से मनोनीत श्री विनयचन्द पापड़ीवाल में रहने लगे थे। इससे प्रतीत होता है कि जब पुष्पदन्त ने 'महापुराण' की रचना की तब भरत मंत्री
द्वारा प्रदत्त सहयोग उल्लेखनीय रहा है। इस कार्य हेतु उनके द्वारा दिया गया समय एवं किया गया थे किन्तु महापुराण पूर्ण होने के बाद या तो भरत का निधन हो गया या उन्होंने वैराग्य ग्रहण कर
अथक परिश्रम श्लाघनीय है। लिया। भरत के पुत्र नन्न' को पिता का उत्तराधिकारी बनाया गया तो 'नन्न' ने भी महाकवि को आश्रय प्रदान किया तथा अपभ्रंश में काव्य रचने की प्रेरणा दी। नन्न प्रकृति से सौम्य तथा हृदय से शुद्ध थे। जिन उदारमना महानुभावों ने आर्थिक सहयोग प्रदानकर इस ग्रन्थ-प्रकाशन के कार्य को सहज अपने पिता की भाँति ही वे भी धार्मिक प्रवृत्ति के थे और जैनागमों के अर्थ का गम्भीरतापूर्वक अध्ययन बनाया उन सभी के प्रति हम हृदय से कृतज्ञ हैं। उनके नाम परिशिष्ट में सादर अंकित हैं। और चिन्तन किया करते थे, चारों प्रकार के दान दिया करते थे। उनके आश्रय में कवि ने

जैनविद्या संस्थान समिति है। इस पांडुलिपि में ३४४ पत्र (६८७ पृष्ठ) हैं। इसका लिपिकाल संवत् १५९७ (ई. सन् १५४०) दिगम्बर जैन अतिशय क्षेत्र श्री महावीरजी १. महाकवि पुष्पदन्त विरचित 'अपभ्रंश महापुराण' का प्रथम एवं द्वितीय भाग।

_ The Managing Committee of the Digambar Jain Big Temple Terapanthiyaan, Jaipur, is very grateful to the President - Shri (Dr.) Subhash Kasliwal, Minister - Shri (Dr.) Samantbhadra Papdiwal, and all other members. Mahakaavi was under the patronage of Minister Bharat until the completion of 'Mahapuran' (i.e., 965 AD), but he was under the patronage of Minister Bharat's son Nann during the composition of 'Nayakumarachariu' (between 966-968 AD). The cooperation provided by Shri Vinaychand Papdiwal, nominated by the Managing Committee of the Big Temple, in this work is noteworthy. It appears that when Pushpadant composed 'Mahapuran', Bharat was the minister, but after the completion of Mahapuran, either Bharat passed away or he took renunciation. Nann, the son of Bharat, became the successor of his father, and Nann also provided patronage to the Mahakaavi and inspired him to compose poetry in Apabhramsha.
