महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम् कषायविषयारम्भलौकिकज्ञानवेदकैः । जिहाषड्भेदसम्बन्धाः कुशीलाख्या दुराशयाः ॥ १९ ॥ संसकाख्या निषिद्धषु द्रव्यभावेषु लोलुपाः । अवसबाहया हीयमानज्ञानादिकत्वतः ॥ १९४ ॥ समाचारबहिर्भूता मृगचार्यभिधानकाः । महामोहानिवृत्याजवअवागाधकूपके ॥ १९५॥ पतन्ति स्म पुनश्चेति भवदेवोऽपि तच्छृतेः । सम्प्राप्तशान्तभावोऽभूशास्वा तत्सायिकाग्रणीः ॥ १९६ ॥ नागश्रियं च दौत्यभावोत्पादितदु:स्थितिम् । आनाय्यादर्शयत्सोऽपि तां दृष्ट्वा संसृतिस्थितिम् ॥१९॥ स्मृत्वा धिमिति निन्दिस्वा गृहीत्वा संयम पुनः । भात्रा सहायुषः प्रान्ते क्रमात्स्वाराधनां श्रितः ॥१९८॥ मृत्वा माहेन्द्रकल्पेऽभूद्वलभद्रविमानके । सामानिकः सुरः सप्तसागरोपमजीवितः ॥ १५९ ॥ ज्यायानहमजाये स्वं कनिष्ठोऽभूस्ततश्च्युतः । इति सोऽपि मुनिप्रोक्तश्रवणेन विरतवान् ॥ २०॥ दीक्षां गृहीतुमुधुक्तो मात्रा पित्रा च वारितः । प्रविश्य नगरं जातसंविदप्रासुकाशनम् ॥ २०॥ नाहमाहारयामीति कुमारोऽकृत निश्चितिम् । तद्वार्ताश्रवणायो यः कश्चिद्भोजयत्यमुम् ॥ २०२॥ तस्मै 'सम्प्रार्थितं दास्यामीति संसयघोषयत् । तदज्ञात्वा दृढवर्माख्यः सप्तस्थानसमाश्रयः ॥ २०३।। श्रावकः समुपेत्यैनं कुमार, ज्ञातिशत्रवः । तवैते स्वपरध्वंसकोविदाः पापहेतवः ।। २०४॥ भावसंयमविध्वस्तिमकृत्वा प्रासुकाशनैः । करिष्ये भद्र 'पर्युष्टिमविमुक्तस्य बन्धुभिः ॥ २०५॥ दुर्लभा संयमे वृशिरित्यवोचति वचः । सोऽपि मत्वा तदाचाम्लनिर्विकृत्य उरसाशनः ॥ २०६॥ दिब्यस्त्रीससिधौ स्थित्वा सदाविकृतचेतसा । तृणाय मन्यमानस्तास्तपो द्वादशवत्सरान् ॥ २०७॥
हुए भी भ्रमर उसकी सुगन्धिसे दूर रहते हैं उसी प्रकार जो सम्यग्दर्शन, सम्यग्ज्ञान तथा सम्यक्चारित्रके समीपवर्ती होकर भी उनके रसास्वादनसे दूर रहते हैं वे पार्श्वस्थ कहलाते हैं ॥१६१-१९२।। जो कषाय, विषय, आरम्भ तथा लौकिक ज्ञानके वशीभूत होकर जिह्वा, इन्द्रिय सम्बन्धी छह रसोंमें आसक्त रहते हैं वे दुष्ठ अभिप्राय वाले कुशील कहलाते हैं ॥१६३।। जो निषिद्ध द्रव्य और भावोंमें लोभी रहते हैं वे संसक्त कहलाते हैं। जिनके ज्ञान, चारित्र आदि घटते रहते हैं वे अवसन्न कहलाते हैं और जो सदाचारसे दूर रहते हैं वे मृगचारी कहलाते हैं। ये सब लोग महामोहका त्याग नहीं होनेसे संसाररूपी अगाध कुएँ में बार-बार पड़ते हैं। गणिनीकी ये सब बातें सुनकर भवदेव मुनिको भी शान्त भावकी प्राप्ति हुई। यह जानकर गणिनीने, दुर्गतिके कारण जिसकी खराब स्थिति हो रही थी ऐसी नागश्रीको बुलवाकर उसे दिखाया। भवदेवने उसे देखकर संसार स्मरण किया, अपने आपको धिक्कार दिया, अपनी निन्दाकर फिरसे संयम धारण किया और बड़े भाई भगदत्त मुनिराजके साथ आयुके अन्तमें अनुक्रमसे चारों आराधनाओंका आश्रय लिया। मरकर अपने भाईके ही साथ माहेन्द्रस्वर्गके बयभद्र नामक विमानमें सात सागरकी आयु वाला सामानिक देव हुआ ॥ १६४-१६६ ॥ वहाँ से चयकर बड़े भाई भगदत्तका जीव मैं हुआ हूँ और छोटे भाई भवदेवका जीव तू हुआ है। इस प्रकार मुनिराजका कहा सुनकर शिवकुमार विरक्त हुआ ।। २००॥ वह दीक्षा लेनेके लिए तैयार हुआ परन्तु माता-पिताने उसे रोक दिया। जिसे आत्मज्ञान प्रकट हुआ है ऐसा वह कुमार यद्यपि नगरमें गया तो भी उसने निश्चय कर लिया कि मैं अप्रासुक आहार नहीं ग्रहण करूँगा। यह बात सुनकर राजाने सभामें घोषणा कर दी कि जो कोई कुमारको भोजन करा देगा मैं उसे इच्छानुसार धन दूंगा। राजाकी यह घोषणा जानकर सात धर्मक्षेत्रोंका आश्रयभूत दृढवर्मा नामक श्रावकः कुमारके पास आकर कहने लगा कि हे कुमार ! अपने और दसरेके आत्माको नष्ट करनेमें पण्डित तथा पापके कारण ये कुटुम्बी लोग तेरे शत्रु हैं इसलिए है भद्र ! भाव-संयमका नाश नहीं कर प्रासुक भोजनके द्वारा मैं तेरी सेवा करूँगा। जो परिवारके लोगोंसे विमुक्त नहीं हुआ है अर्थात् उनके अनुरागमें फंसा हुआ है उसकी संयममें प्रवृत्ति होना दुर्लभ है, इस प्रकार हितकारी वचन कहे। कुमारने भी उसकी बात मानकर निर्विकार आचाम्ल रसका आहार किया ।। २०१-२०६॥ वह यद्यपि सुन्दर स्त्रियोंके समीप रहता था तो भी उसका
