महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम् ते तत्सन्देशमाकण्यं कुमारोऽयं नृपात्मजः। सत्यमेवेति सम्भाव्य बहवरतेन सजन्ताः ॥ ६६४ ॥ ततः समदूसैन्यः संस्तस्य गस्वोपरि स्वयम् । युध्वा नानाप्रकारेण चिरं निजित्य तलम् ॥ ६६५॥ गिर्यन्तविजय गन्धगजं समदमूर्जितम् । समारूढः प्ररूढाझं काष्ठाङ्गारिकमुद्धतम् ॥ ६६६ ॥ उपर्यशनिवेगाख्यविख्यातकरिणः स्थितम् । हत्वा चकार चक्रेण तनुशेष रुषा द्विषम् ॥ ६६७ ॥ विलोक्य तबले भा भयादुपगते सति । तदाकार्षीत्समाश्वासं विधायाभयघोषणाम् ॥ ६६८ ॥ बन्धून्सर्वान् समाहूय 'विनेयानवलोक्य तान् । तत्कालोचितसम्भाषणादिभिः हादमानयत् ॥६६९॥ जिनपूजा विनिवृत्य कृतमालसक्रियः। यक्षेण भूभुजैः सर्वैश्वाप्सराज्याभिषेचनः ॥६७०॥ रत्नवत्या च सम्प्राप्य स विवाहमहोत्सवम् । कृत्वा गन्धर्वदत्ताया महत्याः पट्टबन्धनम् ॥ ६७१॥ नन्दाव्यादिसमानीतमातृजायादिभिर्युतः। सम्प्राप्य परमैश्वर्यमूजितो निजितद्विषः ॥ ६७१॥ यथान्यायं प्रजाः सर्वाः पालयन्हेलयेप्सितान् । लीलयानुभवन् भोगान् स्वपुण्यफलितान् स्थितः ॥६७३॥ सुरादिमलयोचाने कदाचिद्विहरन् विभुः । बरधर्मयतिं दृष्टा सम्प्राप्य विहितानतिः ॥ ६७४॥ ततस्तत्त्वं विदित्वाराव्रतोऽभूदर्शनेऽमलः। नन्दान्यायाश्च सम्यक्त्वव्रतशीलान्युपागमन् ॥ ६७५ ॥ एतैः सुखमसौ स्वासः साकं कालमजीगमत् । अथाशोकवनेऽन्येद्ययुध्यमानं परस्परम् ।। ६७६ ॥ कपीना यूथमालोक्य ज्वलक्रोधहुताशनम् । जातसंसारनिर्वेगस्तस्मिोव वनान्तरे ॥ ६७७ ॥ प्रशस्तवनामानं चारणं वीक्ष्य सादरम् । पूर्वश्रुतानुसारेण श्रुतात्मभवसन्ततिः ॥ ६७८ ॥
सामन्त लोग जीवन्धर कुमारका सन्देश सुनकर कहने लगे कि यह सचमुच ही राजपुत्र है। इस तरह सन्मान कर बहुतसे सामन्त उनके साथ आ मिले ।। ६६४ ॥ तदनन्तर-अपनी सेना तैयार कर जीवन्धर कुमारने स्वयं ही उस पर चढ़ाई की और चिरकाल तक नाना प्रकारका युद्ध कर उसकी सेनाको हरा दिया। ६६५ ।। जीवन्धर कुमार, मदोन्मत्त तथा अतिशय बलवान् विजयगिरि नामक हाथी पर सवार थे और जिसकी प्राज्ञा बहुत समयस जमी हुई थी ऐसा उद्धत काष्ठ अशनिवेग नामक प्रसिद्ध हाथी पर आरूढ़ था। जीवन्धर कुमारने क्रोधमें आकर चक्र शत्रु काष्ठाङ्गारिकको मार गिराया, यह देख उसकी सेना भयसे भागने लगी तब जीवन्धर कुमारने अभय घोषणा कर सबको आश्वासन दिया ॥६६६-६६८ ॥ तदनन्तर कुमारने अपने सब भाई-बन्धुओंको बुलाया और सबको नम्र देखकर उस कालके योग्य सम्भाषण आदिके द्वारा सबको हर्ष प्राप्त कराया ॥६६॥इसके बाद जिनेन्द्र भगवानकी पूजा कर उत्तम माङ्गलिक क्रियाएँ की गई और फिर यक्ष तथा सब राजाओंने मिलकर जीवन्धर कुमारका राज्याभिषेक किया। तदनन्तर रत्नवतीके साथ विवाहका महोत्सव प्राप्त कर गन्धर्वदत्ताको महारानीका पट्टबन्ध बाँधा ।। ६७०-६७१ ।।
आदि जाकर माता विजयाको तथा हेमामा आदि अन्य स्त्रियोंको ले आये। उन सबके साथ जीवन्धर कुमार परम ऐश्वर्यको प्राप्त हुए। उस समय वे अतिशय बलवान थे और जिसके शत्रु नष्ट कर दिये गये हैं ऐसी समस्त प्रजाका नीतिपूर्वक पालन करते थे। अपने पुण्यके फलस्वरूप अनायास ही प्राप्त हुए इष्ट भोगोंका लीलापूर्वक उपभोग करते हुए सुखसे रहते थे ।। ६७२-६७३ ॥ किसी एक समय महाराज जीवन्धर सुरमलय नामक उद्यानमें विहार कर रहे थे वहाँ पर उन्होंने वरधर्म नामक मुनिराजके दर्शन किये, उनके समीप जाकर नमस्कार किया, उनसे तत्वोंका स्वरूप जाना और व्रत लेकर सम्यग्दर्शनको निर्मल किया। नन्दाढ्य आदि भाइयोंने भी सम्यग्दर्शन व्रत और शील धारण किये । इस प्रकार जीवन्धर महाराज अपने इन आप्त जनोंके साथ सुखले समय बिताने लगे। तदनन्तर वे किसी एक दिन अशोक वनमें गये वहाँ पर जिनकी क्रोधाग्नि प्रज्वलित हो रही थी ऐसे दो बन्दराके झुण्डोंको परस्पर लड़ते हुए देख संसारसे विरक्त हो गये। उसी वनके मध्यमें एक प्रशस्तवङ्क नामके चारण मुनि विराजमान थे इसलिए जीवन्धर महाराजने बड़े आदरसे उनके दर्शन किये और पहले सुने अनुसार अपने पूर्वभवोंकी परम्परा सुनी।।६७४-६७।।

After the worship of the Jina, auspicious ceremonies were performed. Then, the Yaksha and all the kings together performed the coronation of the Kumar. After that, he had a grand wedding with Ratnawati and tied the crown of the queen on Gandharvadatta. || 670-671 ||
He brought his mother Vijaya and other women like Hemama. With them all, the Kumar attained supreme sovereignty. He was extremely powerful and his enemies were destroyed. He ruled all his subjects justly, protecting them and fulfilling their desires. He enjoyed the pleasures he had received effortlessly as the fruits of his good deeds. || 672-673 ||
One day, the king was wandering in the garden called Suramalaya. There, he saw the Muni named Vardharma. He went near him and bowed down. He learned the nature of the truth from him and, taking vows, purified his right vision. His brothers, Nanda, Adhya, etc., also took the vows of right vision and right conduct. In this way, the Kumar spent his time happily with his close companions. Then, one day, he went to the Ashoka forest. There, he saw two groups of monkeys fighting with their anger burning. He became detached from the world. In the middle of that forest, there was a Charana Muni named Prashastavanka. The Kumar respectfully paid his respects to him and, according to what he had heard before, listened to the lineage of his past lives. || 674-678 ||
