The Twentieth Chapter
49
Having worshipped the arrow with incense, garlands, and rice grains, and having received the command of the Lord, we should go and offer the arrow. ||147|| O Magadha, do not entertain any kind of mental defilement, and be certain about this task that we have told you. It is not proper for you, a resident of his country, to oppose him. ||148|| O Deva, it is futile to be angry. There will be no peace in opposing the Chakravarti. Who can be happy swimming against the strong current of a great river? ||149|| If it is the policy to keep a powerful person on your side, then you should appease the Chakravarti today. For wise people believe that a flexible attitude towards great men is the way to remove suffering. ||150|| Worship of the worthy brings about the progress of beings in this world and the next. Transgression of the worship of the worthy, i.e., disrespect, binds one to suffering in both worlds. ||151|| Thus, by the words of those Devas, he, the Magadha Deva, who had been somewhat enlightened at that moment, accepted their words, saying, "I did not know this." ||152|| At that time, his mind was somewhat agitated, somewhat fearful, somewhat apprehensive, somewhat distressed, and somewhat enlightened. ||153|| Then, his mind, which had become pure, became calm soon after, and having seen the destruction of anger, she looked at everything that had happened before and after. ||154|| This is the first Chakravarti among the Chakravartis, Bharata, whose command cannot be transgressed. We should worship him in every way and obey his command with respect. ||155|| He is a Chakravarti, he is a perfect being, and he is the son of the Jagadguru, Lord Rishabhadeva. Each of these three qualities is worthy of worship, so what can be said about him who possesses all three? ||156|| Having thus decided, the Magadha Deva, accompanied by many excellent Devas who had attained Sambodhi, immediately set out to see the Chakravarti. ||157||
