The Twenty-Eighth Chapter
The army, with its fluttering flags, marched along the banks of the Ganga, as if sweeping the sky, filled with dust from the forest, clean with the cloth of the flags. ||20||
The armies, difficult to penetrate and filled with great dangers, marched forth, one after another. Many were the rivers flowing along the Ganga, and many were the kingdoms they traversed. ||21||
The Lord, the wealthy one, crossed many kinds of lands, rivers, mountains, forests, forts, and mines on his way. ||22||
The Lord, traversing the forests devoid of the footprints of cattle, seemed to be striving for a moment to fill the holes in the earth, as if to claim the land for himself. ||23||
The rulers of the kingdoms, filled with fear, came and bowed to him on the path. They recognized him as the one who had earned his kingdom through his righteous rule. ||24||
The king, the lord of the wheel, was adorned with the wheel, and his charioteer was skilled. He did not need to say, "O king, wear the wheel," or "O charioteer, drive the chariot." ||25||
Those who wished to conquer, unable to fight him in battle, struck his feet with their crowns, under the guise of prostration. ||26||
He, like a wheel, spread his power over the kingdoms of his enemies, bringing joy to the hearts of his own people, and sorrow to the hearts of his enemies. ||27||
