The Mahapurana narrates that the elephant, swimming in the water, had its trunk raised high, its tusks shining, its neck above the water, and its form resembling a crocodile. Thus, swimming, the elephant reached the middle of a pond. At that time, the serpent woman, who had been killed by Jayakumar's servants while copulating with another serpent and who had become the Kali Devi, seized the elephant in the form of a crocodile where the Sarayu river meets the Ganga. This is fitting, for even a small creature in its own land can be stronger than the great ones. Seeing the elephant sinking, many people returned and stood on the shore. But Hemaangad and others, in a panic, entered the pond together. Seeing them enter the pond, Sulochana remembered the Pancha Namaskar mantra. She held the mantra-form of the Arhant Bhagwan in her heart with great devotion and renounced food and body until the end of the upsurge.
Sulochana was also entering the Ganga with many companions, and it seemed as if the Ganga Devi herself was entering the Ganga river with many companions. At that moment, the Ganga Devi, who resides on the Ganga-Kuta of the Ganga-Patana Kund, knowing everything from the trembling of the seat, came very quickly and, scolding the wicked Kalika Devi, brought them all to the shore.
This is fitting, for who in this world would not come themselves to protect those who do good deeds? Then, the Devi quickly created a building adorned with all riches on the bank of the Ganga river. She seated Sulochana on a throne of jewels and worshipped her, saying, "It is because of the Pancha Namaskar mantra you gave that I became the presiding deity of the Ganga and also the consort of Saudharmendra. All this has happened because of your grace." After the Ganga Devi finished speaking, Jayakumar also asked Sulochana, "What is this?"
