The Thirteenth Chapter: The Ceremony of Varna Labha
The ceremony of Varna Labha is performed for a bhavyapurusha who has completed his vows and desires to establish a relationship with other Shravakas who share his livelihood.
During this ceremony, the bhavyapurusha should respectfully invite four senior Shravakas who have performed their duties well and say to them: "Please make me like yourselves and grant me your grace. You are the liberators, the divine Brahmanas, revered in the world. I have also taken the vows of a Shravaka after receiving initiation. I have practiced all the virtues of a householder, given donations, and performed the worship of my Gurus. By the grace of my Guru, I have been born without a womb and have abandoned the false faith that I had nurtured for a long time, embracing the true faith that I had never contemplated before. I have taken the Yajnopavita for the sake of attaining perfection in my vows and have become learned by studying the Shravaka conduct thoroughly. After completing the ceremony of vow-taking, I have accepted ornaments and have performed the rites of my wife and remarried her. Therefore, it is appropriate for me to receive Varna Labha, and it can be easily obtained with your permission, O fellow practitioners of the true faith."
Upon hearing this, the Shravakas should say: "Yes, it shall be so. What you have said is praiseworthy. Who else is like you, O twice-born? In the absence of men like you, we are forced to associate with those who hold false views, even though they share our livelihood."
Having thus reassured him, the Shravakas should bestow upon him the Varna Labha and he, having received it according to the proper procedure, attains equality with them.
This is the ceremony of Varna Labha. Now, the ceremony of Kulacharya will be described. The Kulacharya is the practice of the six virtues of the Aryas, which is abundant in the bhavyapurusha.
