Chapter Thirty-Three 173 There is a great difference between the remaining Kshatriya youths and him. How can a lion be captured by a snare meant for a deer? ||11|| He is impenetrable due to his cunning in policy, he cannot be subdued by force, and he is not a subject for diplomacy, his mind is corrupted. ||12|| He is fiery, even when he is treated with affection, like the sacrificial fire that burns even more intensely with ghee offerings. ||13|| Diplomacy is useless against him, who is naturally harsh, like applying a skin-softening ointment on an elephant. ||14|| The remaining princes, who have turned away from my command, who have abandoned their enjoyment of the kingdom, and who are inclined to go to the forest, have already revealed their intentions. ||15|| We will test his mind with further appeasement, but if he does not submit, we must consider what to do next. ||16|| He is a deceitful, hidden-minded, and unyielding Kshatriya, who will consume the entire family like a fire arising from within. ||17|| Anger arising from within, from one's own nature, is destructive to the king, like the fire born from the rubbing of branches on a mountain. ||18|| We must act quickly against him, for he is strong and has taken refuge in deceit. We will have peace only when he is subdued, like a cruel planet. ||19|| Having decided thus, the Chakravarti sent a wise messenger, skilled in diplomacy, and equipped with a clear purpose. ||20|| A man cannot be controlled without the knowledge of mantras. ||10|| There is a great difference between the remaining Kshatriya youths and the powerful one. Just as a deer cannot be captured by a snare meant for a lion, so too, the other princes cannot be compared to the powerful one. ||11|| He is impenetrable due to his cunning in policy, he cannot be subdued by force, and he is not a subject for diplomacy, his mind is corrupted. ||12|| Just as the sacrificial fire burns even more intensely with ghee offerings, so too, this powerful one, who is fiery, burns even more intensely when treated with affection. ||10||
