## The Autumn Festival
**38.** The sky was self-purified, the moon self-washed, the rivers self-clarified, and the directions self-swept.
**39.** In the moon-mandala, which was like a mirror to behold the beauty of the autumnal Lakshmi, and which was exceedingly radiant without being polished, the eyes of the people were filled with great joy.
**40.** The rows of trees, fragrant and adorned with fruits, were being enjoyed by the bumblebees, who were making a loud buzzing sound.
**41.** The vines of the forest, with their blooming flowers and gentle smiles, were like slender women, adorned with beautiful hair, and filled with a swarm of bees intoxicated by their fragrance.
**42.** The bulls, enraged by the sight of other bulls, were digging the earth with their hooves, their eyes red with passion, and roaring in response to the sounds of the other bulls.
**43.** The bulls, with their deep roars, were digging the forest floor, which was covered with fragments of lotus flowers, with the tips of their horns.
**44.** In that autumn, the bulls, with their necks smeared with mud and white as the Kumuda flowers, were adorned with the beauty of the moon, which had clear markings.
**45.** The excellent cows, with their udders overflowing with milk, were spreading their milk like a stream over the entire forest floor, roaming here and there within the woods.
**46.** The cows, who had recently given birth, with their udders heavy like pots and pure like solidified nectar, were like the beauty of autumn in the midst of the forests.
**37.** Just as a newly married woman has affection for her brothers, so too did autumn have a reddish hue for the flowers of the afternoon. Just as a newly married woman is radiant, so too did autumn shine with the flowers of the arrow-wood. And just as a newly married woman is surrounded by her friends, so too was autumn surrounded by laughter-filled friends.
