५ वढउ वायगवंसो जसवशी अजनागहत्थीणं" Some believe that Padalipta Suri flourished in the first century of the Vikrama era. This belief too requires investigation 'Tarangavati" (Pr. Tarangavai) of Padalipta Suri is mentioned in 'Anuyogadvara'. Composition of 'anuyoga' (exposition) is prior to Virasamvat 453 and not posterior to it. This is what Panyas Kalyanavijayaji has said in his 'prabandhaparyalocona of "Prabhavakacarita. So it becomes clear that Padalipta Suri is an acarya who flourished before Vira Samvat 453. Consequently it follows that the first Skandila Suri and none else is the teacher of Vrdhavadin Suri and grand-teacher of Siddhasena Divakara Suri.
In Jaina-paramparanoitihasa it is, said that Mallavadin, too, was alive at the time 'anuyogadhara' Skandila Suri delivered his 'vacana. If this is a correct. Divakara Suri cannot be grand-disciple of the second Skandila Suri.
Jaina Suri while showing the connection of 'Padalipta Suri' with Murunda, has referred to the latter as King. We are so far in the dark about him, Some historians decide the date of *Divakara Suri as the fifth or the fourth centuary by showing resemblance between works of Nagarjuna a protagonist of 'nihilism' and those of Siddhasena Divakara but this (view) requires investigation.
From the mere mention of 'nihilism it cannot be said that Divakara (Suri) is posterior to 'Nagarjuna Nihilism has not originated from 'Nagarjuna'. It is certainly order. It is expounded in Prajnaparamitasutra. From the mere fact that 'Madhyama-marga (Midway-Path) and Nihilism are to in 'Dvatrimsaka of Siddhasena, one cannot guess that “Divakarsuri' is posterior to Nagarjuna
Surely this conjucture would have been said to be a right in case it was pointed out that, reasonings and sayings of Nagarjuna' were embodied (by Siddhasena Divakara ). Works of Divakara Suri are at present available as 'text' only. As in my humble opinion we should not hasten to decide his datu by surprises until we come across sound valid proofs.
Venerable Haribhadra Suri has given to Divakara Suri an honorific title of 'Srutakevalin. Hence too, (the period of) this Suri must be ancient very ancient moreover, 'Nagarjuna' has refuted in Sanskrita-pariksa (pp. 45-57 ) of Madhyamakarika' the doctrine of origination permanence and destruction propounded by Divakara Suri. This too, proves that Siddhasena Suri is anterior to ‘Nagarjuna
It seems that this [Siddhasena] Suri had not criticized the Digambara school of thought. So it follows that Divakara Suri must have flourished prior to this school which originated in Virasamvat 606 (according to the Svetambhara tradition) and in Virasamvat 606 according to Digambara works. That is why both the sects (of the Jainas ) cite extracts from his work as authority.
