Sanskrit Renaissance in the Moghal Period.
' I referred earlier to the Sanskrit Renaissance in the Moghal Period - particularly in the reigns of Akbar, Jahāngir and Shāhjahān. We know that Jagannātha who was given the title of Paņditarāja by Shāhjahān at the instance of Asafkhan lived in this age. Prof. V. A. Ramaswami Sastri in his work · Jagannātha Paņdita' refers to about sixteen comtemporaries of whom Kavindrācārya Sarasvati was a protege of Shāhjahān. Sri Desai in his introduction to B. C. gives an account of thirteen Jaina priests at the court of Akbar and thirteen at the court of Juhāngir --some of whom are common. The Jain writers of the age were, however, many more than these. A review of the works of Brahmanical and Jain writers of the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries would show that it was an age of vigorous literary and philosophical activity in India as a whole and as the instances of Padmasundara - author of Akabaraśāhi - Śrågāradarpaşa', Hiravijayasūri, Jagannātha, Bhānucandra, Siddhicandra and Kavindrācārya Sarasvati would prove, Sanskrit learning received encouragement and patronage in the courts of Akbar, Jahāngir and Shāhjahān. A note on Siddhicandra and Jagannātha
The parallel references given above from Rasagangādhara and a more detailed comparison of K. P. K. and R. G. would go to show that there are many ideas which S. and Jagannātha hold in common and that in several cases even phrasing is identical ; though they differ
