The Present Edition.
If we compare the dates given in the colophons of these three Mss. we find that A was finished on Thursday the fifth of bright half Asvina Samvat 1703 which comes to Sep. 23,1647 A. D., while B. and C. were finished nineteen years later (S. 1722) that is in 1666 A. D. A careful comparison of the Mss. shows that B. and C. are almost exact copies of the A. which bears the seal. Thus even though I had three Mss. for preparing the present edition they all belong to one archetype. This has been a handicap. It may, however, be pointed out that on the whole these Mss, give correct and reliable readings. As said in the preface, printed editions of K. P., particulrly that of Jhalkikar, were consulted on doubtful points.
The variations of our text from the Jh's edition have been pointed out in the foot notes. The tippanas or marginal notes of the Mss. A and B also have been incorporated in the foot-notes.
Two Sucis or indexes have been given at the end of the textone of proper names and the other of sutras, slokas, etc. referred to in the text.
Kāvyaprakāśakhandana.
In the colophons at the end of all the Ullasas the work is referred to as Kavyaprakāśakhaṇḍana. In the introductory verse no. 3 however, the work is called Kavyaprakasavivṛti, but in no. 5 the author says '. Thus the author's intention is to write a critical exposition and he, therefore, calls his Vivṛti (exposition:) K. P. Khandana, to distinguish it from mere expositions. In fact Siddhicandra wrote a big commentary in the name of his Guru'.
