and of the state had developed, and the extent to which the great Magadhan arthasastra tradition had fallen into desuetude. The trivial verses variously ascribed to Caṇakya under the titles: Canakyaniti-sara, vṛddha-Canakya etc. mark the penultimate stage to complete oblivion.
It may at least be said that Muni Jinavijayaji's edition, even of so tiny a portion of the Northern text, will be a stimulus to the internal criticism of the Arth.; a task very well worth the attempt and one which must soon be undertaken.
