सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र ,
Neither for food nor for water or for subsistence, but only with the wish of their (performers of yajna) liberation, the sage uttered these words. (10)
न वि जाणासि वेयमुहं, न वि जन्नाण जं मुहं।
नक्खत्ताण मुहं जं च, जं च धम्माण वा मुहं॥११॥ (जयघोष मुनि-) तुम वेद के मुख (प्रधान तत्त्व) को नहीं जानते और यज्ञों का जो मुख (उपाय) है, उसे भी नहीं जानते। नक्षत्रों का जो मुख (प्रधान) है, उसे भी नहीं जानते और जो धर्मों का मुख (उपाय) है, उसे भी नहीं जानते ॥ ११॥
You do not know the mouth (basic theme) of Vedas and you also do not know the mouth (real performer) of yajnas (ritual offerings). You do not know the mouth of Nakshatras (most important among asterisms) and you do not also know the mouth (the source) of religions. (11)
जे समत्था समुद्धत्तुं, परं अप्पाणमेव य।
न ते तुमं वियाणासि, अह जाणासि तो भण॥१२॥ जो अपनी और दूसरों की आत्मा का उद्धार करने में समर्थ हैं, उन्हें भी तुम नहीं जानते। यदि जानते हो तो बताओ॥ १२॥
You even do not know those who are capable of saving their own soul as well as those of the others. However, if you know just tell me. (12)
तस्सऽक्खेवपमोक्खं च, अचयन्तो तहिं दिओ।
सपरिसो पंजली होउं, पुच्छई तं महामुणिं-॥१३॥ उसके (जयघोष मुनि के) आक्षेपों-प्रश्नों के उत्तर (प्रमोक्ष) देने में असमर्थ उस ब्राह्मण (विजयघोष) ने अपनी सम्पूर्ण परिषद् के साथ हाथ जोड़कर उस महामुनि से पूछा- ॥ १३ ॥
When the yajna priest failed to reply these questions, he and all the assembled devotees asked the great sage with joined palms-(13)
वेयाणं च मुहं बूहि, बूहि जन्नाण जं मुहं।
नक्खत्ताण मुहं बूहि, बूहि धम्माण वा मुहं॥१४॥ (विजयघोष-) आप ही बताइये-वेदों का मुख क्या है? यज्ञों का जो मुख है, वह भी कहो। नक्षत्रों का जो मुख है, वह भी कहिए और धर्मों का जो मुख है, वह भी बताइये ॥ १४॥
(Vijayaghosh-) You alone can tell us what is the mouth (basic theme) of the Vedas, the mouth (real performer) of yajnas (ritual offerings), the mouth of Nakshatras (most important among asterisms) and the mouth (the source) of religions. Kindly do that. (14)
जे समत्था समुद्धत्तुं, परं अप्पाणमेव य। एयं मे संसयं सव्वं, साहू ! कहसु पुच्छिओ॥१५॥
