सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
पहाय रागं च तहेव दोसं, मोहं च भिक्खू सययं वियक्खणो।
मेरु व्व वाएण अकम्पमाणो, परीसहे आयगुत्ते सहेज्जा॥१९॥ बुद्धिमान भिक्षु सदा ही राग-द्वेष और मोह का परित्याग करके, वायु (प्रभंजन) से अकम्पित मेरु (पर्वत) के समान आत्मगुप्त रहकर परीषहों को सहे॥ १९॥
Ever renouncing attachment, aversion and fondness, a wise ascetic should endure all afflictions remaining composed with restraints as mountain Meru is in face of a storm. (19)
अणुन्नए नावणए महेसी, न यावि पूर्य गरहं च संजए।
स उज्जुभावं पडिवज्ज संजए, निव्वाणमग्गं विरए उवेइ॥२०॥ पूजा और प्रतिष्ठा में गर्वित (उन्नत) और गर्दा में हीनभावना (अवनत) ग्रस्त न होने वाला महर्षि पूजा और गर्दा से अलिप्त रहे। वह विरत संयमी सरलता को स्वीकार करके निर्वाणमार्ग-मोक्षमार्ग को प्राप्त करता है॥ २०॥
A great sage should remain untouched by feelings of superiority or inferiority complex on being honoured or blamed. That detached and restrained acetic accepts simplicity and gains the path of liberation. (20)
अरइरइसहे पहीणसंथवे, विरए आयहिए पहाणवं।
परमट्ठपएहिं चिट्ठई, छिन्नसोए अममे अकिंचणे॥२१॥ जो अरति और रति को सहता है, संसारी जनों से अति परिचय नहीं रखता है, विरक्त है, आत्म-कल्याण की साधना करता है, प्रधानवान है, शोक और ममत्वरहित है, अकिंचन है, वह सम्यग्ज्ञान आदि परमार्थ पदों में-मोक्ष-प्राप्ति के साधनों में रत रहता है॥ २१॥
He who tolerates pleasure (rati) as well as misery (arati), cuts off links with worldly people, is detached, works for beatitude of soul, strives for the most important goal, is devoid of sorrow and fondness, is free of possessions, remains occupied with means (right knowledge etc.) of attaining loftiest attainment, the liberation. (21)
विवित्तलयणाई भएज्ज ताई, निरोवलेवाइ असंथडाइं।
इसीहि चिण्णाइ महायसेहि, काएण फासेज्ज परीसहाइं॥२२॥ प्राणियों की रक्षा करने वाला साधु महान् यशस्वी ऋषियों द्वारा स्वीकृत, लेप आदि कर्म से रहित, बीज आदि से रहित, एकान्त स्थानों का (विविक्त लयणाइ) सेवन करे और परीषहों को सहे॥ २२॥
The ascetic, who is the saviour of all living beings, should use isolated places approved by sages, free of association (belonging to others or prepared for him) and uncontaminated with any form or source of life and endure afflictions. (22)
सन्नाणनाणोवगए महेसी, अणुत्तरं चरिउं धम्मसंचयं । अणुत्तरेनाणधरे जसंसी, ओभासई सूरिए वऽन्तलिक्खे॥२३॥
