तओ सो पहसिओ राया, सेणिओ मगहाहिवो।
एवं ते इड्ढिमन्तस्स, कहं नाहो न विज्जई ? ॥१०॥ (श्रेणिक-) यह सुनकर मगधपति राजा श्रेणिक जोर से हँसा और फिर बोला-तुम ऋद्धि-सम्पन्न दिखाई देते हो, फिर भी तुम्हारा कोई नाथ कैसे नहीं है? ॥ १० ॥
(Shrenik-) Hearing this, king Shrenik of Magadh laughed loudly and said-You appear to be wealthy, even then how come you have no guardian? (10)
होमि नाहो भयन्ताणं, भोगे भुंजाहि संजया।
मित्त-नाईपरिवुडो, माणुस्सं खु सुदुल्लहं॥११॥ हे. भदन्त ! मैं आपका नाथ बन जाता हूँ। हे संयत! आप मित्र और ज्ञातिजनों के साथ भोगों को भोगो; क्योंकि मानव-जन्म की प्राप्ति अति दुर्लभ है॥ ११॥
I will be your guardian. O restrained one! You should enjoy pleasures of life with your friends and clansmen; for it is rare to be born as a human. (11)
अप्पणा वि अणाहो सि, सेणिया ! मगहाहिवा !
अप्पणा अणाहो सन्तो, कहं नाहो भविस्ससि? ॥१२॥ (श्रमण-) हे मगधाधीश राजा श्रेणिक ! तुम स्वयं अनाथ हो तब मेरे नाथ कैसे बन सकते हो? ॥ १२॥
(Ascetic-) O king Shrenik, emperor of Magadh! You yourself are unguarded and without any protection, then how can you become my guardian? (12)
एवं वुत्तो नरिन्दो सो, सुसंभन्तो सुविम्हिओ।
वयणं अस्सुयपुव्वं, साहुणा विम्हयन्निओ॥१३॥ पहले से ही विस्मित राजा श्रेणिक मुनि के इन वचनों को सुनकर और भी विस्मित तथा संभ्रमित हो गया॥ १३ ॥
Already astonished king Shrenik was further surprised and confused hearing these words from the ascetic. (13)
अस्सा हत्थी मणुस्सा मे, पुरं अन्तेउरं च मे।
भुंजामि माणुसे भोगे, आणा इस्सरियं च मे॥१४॥ (श्रेणिक-) मेरे पास घोड़े हैं, हाथी हैं, मनुष्य (सेवक) हैं। यह नगर मेरा है और मेरा अन्तःपुर भी है, मेरा ऐश्वर्य है तथा मेरी आज्ञा चलती है। मैं मनुष्य सम्बन्धी सभी प्रकार के भोगों को भोग रहा हूँ॥१४॥
(Shrenik-) I possess horses, elephants and attendants. This city belongs to me and I have palace with female quarters (with wives and maids). I have grandeur and my word is command. I enjoy all pleasures and comforts of human life. (14)
