सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
तस्स रूवं तु पासित्ता, राइणो तम्मि संजए।
अच्चन्तपरमो आसी, अउलो रूवविम्हओ॥५॥ उस संयत के रूप को देखकर राजा के मन में उसके प्रति अत्यधिक अतुलनीय आश्चर्य हुआ॥५॥
Observing the graceful looks of that ascetic, the king was filled with great and unequalled astonishment. (5)
__ अहो ! वण्णो अहो ! रूवं, अहो ! अज्जस्स सोमया।
अहो ! खंती, अहो ! मुत्ती, अहो ! भोगे असंगया॥६॥ राजा श्रेणिक के हृदय में आश्चर्यकारी भाव उमड़े-अहो! इस संयत का क्या अर्थ है? क्या रूप है? कैसी सौम्यता है? कितनी क्षमा है? कैसी निर्लोभता है? और भोगों के प्रति कितनी असंगतता
(King Shrenik was-) Overwhelmed with sentiments of wonderment-Oh ! What a complexion ? Oh what grace ? Oh what noble serenity ? Oh what forgiveness ? Oh what an absence of greed ? Oh what a disregard for pleasures ? this ascetic has. (6)
तस्स पाए उ वन्दिता, काऊण य पयाहिणं।
नाइदूरमणासन्ने, पंजली पडिपुच्छई-॥७॥ उस साधु की प्रदक्षिणा तथा वन्दना करके न तो अधिक दूर और न अति समीप-योग्य स्थान पर खड़ा हुआ और हाथ जोड़कर पूछने लगा- ॥ ७॥
. After circumambulating the ascetic and paying homage the king stood at a proper place, neither too far nor too near and joining his palms asked- (7)
तरुणोसि अज्ज ! पव्वइओ, भोगकालम्मि संजया !
उवट्ठिओ सि सामण्णे, एयमढं सुणेमि ता॥८॥ हे आर्य! हे संयत! आप भोगकाल में-युवावय में प्रव्रजित हुए हो, श्रामण्य की परिपालना कर रहे हो। इसका क्या कारण है? मैं सुनना चाहता हूँ॥ ८॥
O noble one! O restrained one! You have embraced the ascetic way in your age of merriment sincerely following the ascetic-conduct. What is the reason for this? I would like to know. (8)
अणाहो मि महाराय !, नाहो मज्झ न विज्जई।
अणुकम्पगं सुहिं वावि, कंचि नाभिसमेमऽहं॥९॥ (साधु-) महाराज! मैं अनाथ हूँ, मेरा कोई नाथ नहीं है। अनुकम्पा करने वाला कोई सुहृत मित्र भी मुझे न मिल पाया ॥ ९॥
(Ascetic-) O king! I am an orphan (anaath); I have no guardian or protection. I never found a compassionate friend or a sympathizer. (9)
