सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
That homeless ascetic, who had blocked inflow of karmas, was deep in meditation in a pavilion of creepers. King Sanjaya killed with arrows the deer which came near the ascetic. (5)
अह आसगओ राया, खिप्पमागम्म सो तहिं।
हए मिए उ पासित्ता, अणगारं तत्थ पासई॥६॥ जहाँ अनगार ध्यानस्थ थे, अश्वारूढ़ राजा संजय शीघ्र ही वहाँ आया। पहले उसने मृत हरिणों को देखा और फिर उसकी दृष्टि अनगार की ओर उठ गई ॥ ६॥
Soon king Sanjaya on horseback came where the ascetic was meditating. First he saw the dead deer and then he happened to raise his eyes towards the ascetic. (6)
अह राया तत्थ संभन्तो, अणगारो मणाऽऽहओ।
मए उ मन्दपुण्णेणं, रसगिद्धेण घन्तुणा॥७॥ वहाँ अनगार को देखकर राजा सहसा भयाक्रांत हो गया। वह सोचने लगा-मैं कैसा मन्द-पुण्य, भाग्यहीन, रस-लोलुप और हिंसक हूँ कि मैंने मृगों का वध करके व्यर्थ ही अनगार को पीड़ित किया॥७॥
Seeing the ascetic there the king was taken aback with fright. He thought-How demeritorious, ill-fated, obsessed with taste and violent I am that I have killed these deer and hurt the ascetic for nothing. (7)
आसं विसज्जइत्ताणं, अणगारस्स सो निवो।
विणएण वन्दए पाए, भगवं ! एत्थ मे खमे॥८॥ अश्व को छोड़कर राजा ने विनयपूर्वक अनगार के चरणों में वन्दन किया और कहा- भगवन् ! इस अपराध के लिये मुझे क्षमा प्रदान करें॥ ८॥
Leaving the horse, the king bowed respectfully at the feet of the ascetic and said - Bhante! Please forgive me for this offence. (8)
अह मोणेण सो भगवं, अणगारे झाणमस्सिए।
रायाणं न पडिमन्तेइ, तओ राया भयदुओ॥९॥ किन्तु उस समय वे अनगार भगवन्त मौन के साथ ध्यान में लीन थे। अतः उन्होंने राजा को कोई प्रत्युत्तर नहीं दिया। राजा इससे और अधिक भयाक्रांत हुआ॥ ९॥
But at that time the ascetic was absorbed in deep and silent meditation. As such he did not respond. The silence added to the king's fright. (9)
संजओ अहमस्सीति, भगवं ! वाहराहि मे।
कुद्धे तेएण अणगारे, डहेज्ज नरकोडिओ॥१०॥ भयाक्रान्त राजा नम्रतापूर्वक बोला-भगवन्! मैं संजय राजा हूँ। आप मुझसे कुछ तो बोलें। क्योंकि कुपित हुए अनगार अपने तपः तेज से करोड़ों मनुष्यों को जलाकर भस्म कर सकते हैं।॥ १० ॥
