First condition of perfect celibacy
He who uses selective (as prescribed for an ascetic) bed and seat is a nirgranth (knotless ascetic or Jain ascetic).

He who does not use the bed and seat used or touched by women, eunuchs and animals, is an ascetic.
(Q.) Why is it so?
(Ans.) The preceptor explains-If a celibate ascetic uses bed and seat used by womenanimals-eunuchs, then doubt and disrespect for celibacy as well as desire of sexual indulgence germinate in his mind; in other words his vow of celibacy is breached. Also, he is inflicted by mental disorder, prolonged ailments and terror. Ultimately he falls from the religious path shown and established the omniscient (Kevali).
Therefore, he who does not use the bed and seat used or touched by women, eunuchs and animals, is an ascetic.
सूत्र ४ - नो इत्थीणं कहं कहित्ता हवइ, से निग्गन्थे ।
तं कहमिति चे ?
आयरियाह - निग्गन्थस्स खलु इत्थीणं कहं कहेमाणस्स, बम्भयारिस्स बम्भचेरे संका वा कंखा वा वितिगिच्छा वा समुप्पज्जिज्जा, भेयं वा लभेज्जा, उम्मायं वा पाउणिज्जा, दीहकालियं वा रोगायके हवेज्जा, केवलिपन्नत्ताओ वा धम्माओ भंसेज्जा ।
तम्हा नो इत्थीणं कहं कहेज्जा ।
द्वितीय ब्रह्मचर्य समाधि - स्थान
सूत्र ४ - जो स्त्रियों के रूप, लावण्य, हाव-भाव आदि से सम्बन्धित कामोत्तेजक कथा नहीं करता, वह निर्ग्रन्थ है |
(प्रश्न) ऐसा क्यों है ?
(उत्तर) आचार्य उत्तर देते हुए कहते हैं - स्त्रियों की कथा कहने वाले ब्रह्मचारी निर्ग्रन्थ के ब्रह्मचर्य के विषय में शंका, कांक्षा, विचिकित्सा उत्पन्न होती है, उसके ब्रह्मचर्य का विनाश हो जाता है, उन्माद अथवा दीर्घकालीन रोग और आतंक हो जाते हैं। वह केवली प्ररूपित धर्म से भ्रष्ट हो जाता है।
इसलिए ब्रह्मचारी निर्ग्रन्थ को स्त्री-कथा नहीं करनी चाहिये ।
