सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
(Father—) Though non-existent, fire comes into being in Arani wood, ghee (butteroil) in milk, oil in sesame seeds. In the same way, my sons, soul comes into being in the body; it parishes the moment the body parishes. (18)
नो इन्दियग्गेज्झ अमुत्तभावा, अमुत्तभावा वि य होइ निच्चो । अज्झत्थहेउं निययस्स बन्धो, संसारहेडं च वयन्ति बन्धं ॥ १९ ॥
(पुत्र-) रूप, गन्ध आदि रहित अमूर्त्तभाव - आत्मा, इन्द्रियों द्वारा नहीं जाना जा सकता। लेकिन अमूर्त्तभाव नित्य होते हैं। आत्मा के राग-द्वेषादि आन्तरिक दोषों के कारण ही बन्ध होता है और बन्ध ही संसार का हेतु कहा गया है ॥ १९ ॥
(Sons-) Devoid of sight, smell and other corporeal attributes, the formless soul cannot be grasped and known by senses. But that which is without corporeal form is eternal. Bondage is caused by inner faults of soul, including attachment and aversion, and bondage alone is said to be the reason for continued cyclic rebirths (samsar). (19). जहा वयं धम्ममजाणमाणा, पावं पुरा कम्ममकासि मोहा । ओरुज्झमाणा परिरक्खियन्ता, तं नेव भुज्जो वि समायरामो ॥ २० ॥
हम जब तक धर्म को नहीं जानते थे, पाप करते रहे। आपने हमें रोका और हमारा पालन-पोषण किया। लेकिन अब हम पापकर्म नहीं करेंगे ॥ २० ॥
We continued to sin until we were not aware of the religion. You detained us and brought us up. But now we will not indulge in sinful deeds anymore. (20) अब्भाहयमि लोगंमि, सव्वओ परिवारिए । अमोहाहिं पडन्तीहिं, गिहंसि न रङ्गं लभे ॥ २१ ॥
लोक पीड़ित है। चारों ओर से घिरा है। अमोघा आ रही है। इस दशा में हम घर में सुख का अनुभव नहीं कर पाते हैं ॥ २१ ॥
The whole Lok (world of the living) is oppressed and surrounded from all sides. The amogha (unstoppable) moves on. In such situation we cannot feel comfort or pleasure at home. (21)
के
अब्भाहओ लोगो ?, केण वा परिवारिओ ? । का वा अमोहा वुत्ता?, जाया ! चिंतावरो हुमि ॥ २२ ॥
(पिता-) पुत्रो ! यह लोक किससे आहत अथवा पीड़ित है ? किससे घिरा हुआ है ? अमोघा किसे कहते हैं? मैं यह जानने के लिये चिन्तित हूँ ॥ २२ ॥
(Father –) Sons! What hurts this Lok (the living of this world)? What surrounds it? What do you mean by amogha? I am anxious to know that all. (22)
मच्चुणाऽब्भाहओ लोगो, जराए परिवारिओ ।
अमोहा रयणी वुत्ता, एवं ताय ! वियाणह ॥ २३॥
