सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
पुढविक्कायमइगओ, उक्कोसं जीवो उ संवसे । कालं संखाईयं, समयं गोयम ! मा पमायए ॥ ५ ॥
पृथ्वीकाय में उत्पन्न हुआ जीव, उसी काय में पुनः पुनः जन्म-मरण करता हुआ, अधिक असंख्यातकाल तक पृथ्वीकाय में ही रहता है । अतः हे गौतम! क्षण मात्र का भी प्रमाद मत करो ॥ ५ ॥
A soul reborn in the genus of earth-bodied beings (prithvi-kaya) remains in the same genus for a maximum of uncountable period of time by getting reborn time and again. Therefore, Gautam! Be not negligent even for a moment. (5)
आउक्कायमइगओ, उक्कोसं जीवो उ संवसे ।
कालं संखाईयं, समयं गोयम ! मा पमायए ॥ ६ ॥
जलकाय में उत्पन्न हुआ जीव, उसी काय में बार- बार जन्म-मरण करता हुआ, अधिकतम असंख्यातकाल तक रहता है। अतः हे गौतम! क्षण मात्र का भी प्रमाद मत करो ॥ ६ ॥
A soul reborn in the genus of water-bodied beings (jala-kaya) remains in the same genus for a maximum of uncountable period of time by getting reborn time and again. Therefore, Gautam! Be not negligent even for a moment. (6)
ते उक्कायमइगओ, उक्कोसं जीवो उ संवसे । कालं संखाईयं, समयं गोयम ! मा पमायए ॥ ७ ॥
जो जीव तेजस्काय में उत्पन्न होता है, वह उसी काय में बार-बार जन्म-मरण करता हुआ, अधिक से अधिक संख्यातीत-असंख्यकाल तक उसी तेजस्काय में रहता है । अतः हे गौतम! क्षण मात्र का भी प्रमाद मत करो ॥ ७ ॥
A soul reborn in the genus of fire-bodied beings (tejas-kaya) remains in the same genus for a maximum of uncountable period of time by getting reborn time and again. Therefore, Gautam! Be not negligent even for a moment. (7)
वाउक्कायमइगओ, उक्कोसं जीवो उ संवसे ।
कालं संखाईयं, समयं गोयम ! मा पमायए ॥ ८ ॥
वायुकाय में जो जीव उत्पन्न होता है, वह बार-बार वायुकाय में ही जन्म-मरण करता हुआ, अधिक से अधिक असंख्यकाल तक उसी वायुकाय में रहता है । अतः हे गौतम! क्षण मात्र का भी प्रमाद मत करो ॥ ८ ॥

वणस्सइकायमइगओ, उक्कोसं जीवो उ संवसे ।
कालमणन्तदुरन्तं, समयं गोयम ! मा पमायए ॥ ९॥
वनस्पतिकाय में उत्पन्न हुआ जीव, बार-बार जन्म-मरण करता हुआ, उत्कृष्टत: दुरन्त अनन्तकाल तक उसी काय में रहता है। अतः हे गौतम! क्षण मात्र का भी प्रमाद मत करो ॥ ९ ॥
