These are twelve in number. The first seven of these have gradual 41 increase of duration starting from one month for the first and going up i
to seven months for the seventh. Each of the eighth, ninth and tenth is for duration of 7 days and nights. The eleventh is for one day and one night and the twelfth just for one night. Detailed description of this is given in the seventh chapter of Dashashrutskandh. The practicing ascetic dissociates completely from his body by renouncing all fondness and care for his body including bathing. His austerity is successfully concluded only when he calmly endures all afflictions caused by divine

८. भिक्खू य अन्नयरं अकिच्चट्ठाणं पडिसेवित्ता, से णं तस्स ठाणस्स + अणालोइयाऽपडिक्कंते कालं करेइ, नत्थि तस्स आराहणा। से णं तस्स ठाणस्स
आलोइयपडिक्कते कालं करेइ अस्थि तस्स आराहणा। ____८. कोई भिक्षु किसी अकृत्य (पाप) का सेवन करके, यदि उस अकृत्य-स्थान की 卐 आलोचना तथा प्रतिक्रमण किये बिना ही काल कर (मर) जाता है तो उसके आराधना नहीं
होती। यदि वह भिक्षु उस सेवित अकृत्य-स्थान की आलोचना और प्रतिक्रमण करके काल 卐 करता है, तो उसके आराधना होती है।
8. If an ascetic indulges in forbidden activity (sin) and dies without performing the formal censure (aalochana) and critical review fi (pratikraman) for the same, he fails to accomplish his spiritual endeavour (aaradhana). However, if he dies after performing the formal censure (aalochana) and critical review (pratikraman) for the same, he accomplishes his spiritual endeavour (aaradhana).
९. [१] भिक्खू य अन्नयरं अकिच्चट्ठाणं पडिसेवित्ता, तस्स णं एवं भवइ-पच्छा कवि णं अहं चरिमकालसमयंसि एयस्स ठाणस्म आलोएस्सामि जाव पडिक्कमिस्सामि, से ॐ णं तस्स ठाणस्स अणालोइय अपडिक्कते जाव नत्थि तस्स आराहणा। है [२] से णं तस्स ठाणस्स आलोइयपडिक्कते कालं करेइ अस्थि तस्स आराहणा।
९. [१] कदाचित् किसी भिक्षु ने किसी अकृत्य-स्थान का सेवन कर लिया हो, किन्तु 卐 बाद में उसके मन में ऐसा विचार उत्पन्न हो कि मैं अपने अन्तिम समय में इस अकृत्य-स्थान
की आलोचना करूँगा यावत् तप-रूप प्रायश्चित स्वीकार करूँगा; परन्तु वह उस अकृत्य-स्थान ऊ की आलोचना और प्रतिक्रमण किये बिना ही काल कर जाए, तो उसके आराधना नहीं होती।'
[२] यदि वह आलोचना और प्रतिक्रमण करके काल करे, तो उसके आराधना होती है।
