[उ.] गौतम ! वेदना तीन प्रकार की कही गई है। यथा - शीत, उष्ण और शीतोष्ण । यहाँ प्रज्ञापना सूत्र का सम्पूर्ण पैंतीसवाँ वेदना पद कहना चाहिए; यावत्
६-२. [प्र.] ‘भगवन्!' क्या नैरयिक जीव दुःख रूप वेदना वेदते हैं, या सुख रूप वेदना वेदते हैं, अथवा अदुःख - असुख रूप वेदना वेदते हैं?
[उ.] हे गौतम! नैरयिक जीव दुःख रूप वेदना भी वेदते हैं, सुख रूपं वेदना भी वेदते हैं और अदुःख - असुख रूप वेदना भी वेदते हैं।

6-1. [Q.] Bhante ! How many types of Vedana ( sufferance) are said to be there?
[Ans.] Gautam! There are said to be three types of Vedana (sufferance)-cold, hot and cold-hot. Here quote the complete thirtyfifth chapter, Vedana Pad, of Prajnapana Sutra.
6- 2. [Q.] Bhante ! Do infernal beings experience sufferance in the form of sorrow, or in the form of pleasure, or in the form of absence of sorrow or pleasure?
[Ans.] Gautam ! Infernal beings experience sufferance in the form of sorrow, and in the form of pleasure, as well as in the form of absence of sorrow or pleasure.
विवेचन - वेदना का स्वरूप - प्रस्तुत सूत्र में वेदना के तीन प्रकार बताए हैं- १. शीत- वेदना, २. उष्ण - वेदना और ३. शीतोष्ण वेदना । नरक में शीत और उष्ण दोनों प्रकार की वेदना पाई जाती है । शेष असुरकुमारादि से वैमानिक तक २३ दण्डकों में तीनों प्रकार की वेदना पाई जाती हैं। दूसरे प्रकार से वेदना ४ प्रकार की है- द्रव्यतः, क्षेत्रतः, कालतः और भावतः ।
पुद्गल द्रव्यों के सम्बन्ध से जो
वेदना होती है वह द्रव्य - वेदना, नरकादि क्षेत्र से सम्बन्धित वेदना क्षेत्र - वेदना, पंचमारक एवं षष्ठारक सम्बन्धी वेदना काल - वेदना, शोक क्रोधादि सम्बन्धजनित वेदना भाव - वेदना है । समस्त संसारी जीवों के ये चारों प्रकार की वेदनाएँ होती हैं। वेदना के विविध भेदों व प्रभेदों को उक्त प्रज्ञापना सूत्र से जान लेना चाहिए ।
Elaboration-This aphorism states three kinds of Vedana (sufferance ) — (1) cold sufferance, ( 2 ) hot sufferance and ( 3 ) cold-hot sufferance. In hell two kinds of sufferance, both hot and cold is experienced. In all the remaining 23 places of suffering ( dandak) including divine realms from Asur-kumars to Vaimanik all three kinds of sufferance is experienced. In another context sufferance is of four kinds—substance (dravya) related, area (kshetra ) related, time (kaal) related and feeling (bhaava) related. The sufferance caused by
