९. [प्र.] जम्मा णं भंते! दिसा किं जीवा. ?
९. [3] जहा इंदा (सु. ८) तहेव निरवसेसं । नेरई जहा अग्गेयी (सु. ९) । वारुणी जहा इंदा (सु. ८) । वायव्वा जहा अग्गेयी (सु. ९) । सोमा जहा इंदा । ईसाणी जहा अग्गेयी । विमलाए जीवा जहा अग्गेयीए, अजीवा जहा इंदा। एवं तमाए वि, नवरं अरूवि छव्विहा । अद्धासमयो न भण्णइ ।
९. [ प्र.] भगवन् ! याम्या (दक्षिण) - दिशा क्या जीव रूप है ? इत्यादि पूर्ववत् प्रश्न । [उ.] ( गौतम !) ऐन्द्री दिशा के समान सभी कथन (सू. ८ में उक्त ) जानना चाहिए। नैर्ऋती विदिशा का कथन आग्नेयी विदिशा के समान जानना चाहिए। वारुणी (पश्चिम) - दिशा
का ऐन्द्री दिशा के समान जानना चाहिए। वायव्या विदिशा का कथन आग्नेयी के समान है। सौम्या (उत्तर) - दिशा का कथन ऐन्द्री दिशा के समान है। ऐशानी विदिशा का कथन आग्नेयी के समान है। विमला (ऊर्ध्व) - दिशा में जीवों का कथन आग्नेयी के समान है तथा अजीवों का कथन ऐन्द्री दिशा के समान है। इसी प्रकार तमा (अधो- दिशा) का कथन भी जानना चाहिए । विशेष इतना ही है कि तमा-दिशा में अरूपी - अजीवों ६ भेद हैं, क्योंकि वहाँ ( गतिमान सूर्य का प्रकाश न होने से ) अद्धा समय नहीं है। अतः अद्धा समय का कथन नहीं किया गया है। 9.[Q.] Bhante ! Does the Yamya direction (south) appear as (abound in) jiva (the living) etc. ? (as earlier question)
[Ans.] Gautam ! The answer is exactly same as that about east direction (Aphorism-7). That about Nairiti (southwest) is same as that about southeast (Aphorism-8). That about the West is same as the East (Aphorism - 7). That about Vayavyaa (northwest) is same as southeast (Aphorism-8). That about the North is same as east. That about Aishaani (northeast) is same as southeast. In case of Zenith the answer about the living follows the pattern of southeast and that about the non-living follows the pattern of the East. The same is true for Nadir, the only difference being that in case of Nadir the number of formless non-living is only 6. This is because there is absence of time (in absence of the moving sun).
