reward. He then took a silver urn filled with pure water and sprinkled it 4 over the heads of the maids (formal sign of freedom from slavery). He $1 also gave them wealth enough to last their lifetime and dismissed them with honour and respect.
विवेचन-अंग-परिचारिकाओं का मस्तक धोने की क्रिया, उनको दासत्व से मुक्त करने की प्रतीक क है। जिस दासी का मस्तक धो दिया जाता था, उसे उस युग में दासत्व से मुक्त समझा जाता था। यह प्रक्रिया उस काल की परम्पराओं को परिलक्षित करती है।
Elaboration—The act of sprinkling water on the heads of maids or slave girls is the ritual indicating their freedom from slavery. Mention of this ritual informs us about the slave tradition prevalent during that period.

३९. तए णं से बले राया कोडुंबियपुरिसे सद्दावेइ, को. स. एवं वयासी-खिप्पामेव है भो देवाणुप्पिया! हत्थिणाउरे नयरे चारगसोहणं करेह, चा. क. २ माणुम्माणवड्ढणं करेह, ॐ मा. क. २ हत्थिणारं नयरं सब्भितरबाहिरियं आसियसम्मज्जियोवलित्तं जाव करेह य
कारवेह य, करेत्ता य कारवेत्ता य, जूवसहस्सं वा, चक्कसहस्सं वा, पूयामहामहिमसक्कारं म वा उस्सवेह, ऊ. २ ममेयमाणत्तियं पच्चप्पिणह।
[३९] इसके पश्चात् बल राजा ने कौटुम्बिक पुरुषों को बुलाया और उन्हें इस प्रकार है कहा-हे देवानुप्रियो! हस्तिनापुर नगर के कारागार में से कैदियों को मुक्त कर दो और मान + (नाप) तथा उन्मान (तौल) में वृद्धि करो। फिर हस्तिनापुर नगर के बाहर और भीतर छिड़काव 5 करो, सफाई करो और शुद्धि कराओ। तत्पश्चात् यूप (जूवा) सहस्र और चक्रसहस्र की पूजा, म महिमा और सत्कार करके उत्सव करो। मेरे आदेशानुसार यह सब कार्य करके मुझे पुनः निवेदन
करो।
39. King Bal then called his attendants and instructed them41 “O beloved of gods! Release all prisoners from the prison in Hastinapur
and subsidize prices of essential goods. After that sprinkle water inside and outside the city in order to clean and purify Hastinapur. Then raise thousand pillars and thousand posts, do their ritual worship and launch festivities. Do all this and report back.”
४०. तए णं ते कोडं बियपुरिसा बलेणं रण्णा एवं वुत्ता जाव पच्चप्पिणंति।
[४०] तदनन्तर बल राजा के आदेशानुसार यावत् कार्य करके उन कौटुम्बिक पुरुषों ने आज्ञानुसार कार्य हो जाने का निवेदन किया।
