855555555555555555555555555555555555558 मदेव ऊर्ध्वदिशा में और एक देव अधोदिशा में जाए। उसी दिन और उसी समय एक गाथापति के, म एक हजार वर्ष की आयु वाले एक बालक ने जन्म लिया। तदनन्तर उस बालक के माता-पिता के
चल बसे। (उतने समय में भी) वे देव, लोक का अन्त प्राप्त नहीं कर सके। उसके बाद वह है 卐 बालक भी आयुष्य पूर्ण होने पर कालधर्म को प्राप्त हो गया। उतने समय में भी वे देव, लोक का ॥
अन्त प्राप्त न कर सके। उस बालक की हड्डी, मज्जा भी नष्ट हो गई, तब भी वे देव, लोक का
अन्त पा नहीं सके। फिर उस बालक की सात पीढ़ियों तक का कुलवंश नष्ट हो गया उतने समय के + में भी वे देव, लोक का अन्त प्राप्त न कर सके। तत्पश्चात् उस बालक के नाम-गौत्र भी नष्ट हो म गए, उतने समय तक (चलते रहने पर) भी वे देव, लोक का अन्त प्राप्त नहीं कर सके। $ 26-1. [Q] Bhante ! How large is the Lok (the universe) said to be ?
__[Ans.] Gautam ! This continent called Jambudveep is at the centre of all continents and oceans. Its circumference is slightly more than
3,16, 227 Yojans (Y. = 8 miles), 3 Kosas (K. = 2 miles), 128 Dhanush (D = . 5 a little more than a meter) and 13.5 Anguls (A = about 0.5 inch).
At some point of time, if six gods with great opulence... and so on % up to... great happiness stand at different points all around the peak of $ Mount Mandaar, and at the ground level four Dikkumaris (goddesses of 41
directions), carrying a lump of dough in hands, stand at the periphery of 15 the Jambu continent facing the four cardinal directions. Now, the
goddesses throw out the lump of dough simultaneously. Gautam! If each
god is capable of dashing forward with a tremendous speed to catch the 4 lumps before they touch the ground, and if with such superhuman speed 5
one god dashes in the east, one in the west, one in the north, one in the
south, one in the Zenith and one in the Nadir; and at that moment a 45 son with a life span of one thousand years is born to a merchant and in
due course the parents die; even after the passage of so much time the
gods cannot reach the end of the universe. After that the boy completes 51 his life span and passes away, still the gods fail to reach the end of the
universe. Then after the passage of a long period the bones and marrow of the boy completely decay, even till then the gods do not reach the end. After this seven generations of the boy pass and still the gods are not near the end of the universe. Even after the extinction of the lineage of the boy and wiping of the name from the social memory the gods cannot reach the end of the universe.
२६-२. [प्र.] 'तेसि णं भंते ! देवाणं किं गए बहुए, अगए बहुए ?'
