collected numerous utensils and equipment including his grinding stone, iron cooking pans and spoons as well as the basket and the carrying pole, and came to the hermitage in Hastinapur. Leaving his hermitequipment there he started moving around in squares, crossings, highways and other public places in the city of Hastinapur and preaching to masses, 451 “O beloved of gods! I have gained supreme knowledge and perception with the help of which, I know and see that this Lok (occupied space or universe) has seven continents and seven oceans.”
१८. तए णं तस्स सिवस्स रायरिसिस्स अंतियं एयमहँ सोच्चा निसम्म हत्थिणापुरे नयरे सिंघाडग-तिग जाव पहेसु बहुजणो अन्नमन्नस्स एवमाइक्खइ जाव परूवेइ-एवं खलु ॐ देवाणुप्पिया! सिवे रायरिसी एवं आइक्खइ जाव परूवेइ, 'अत्थि णं देवाणुप्पिया। ममं अइसेसे नाण-दंसणे जाव तेण परं वोच्छिन्ना दीवा य समुद्दाय य।' से कहमेयं मन्ने एवं? ।
[१८] तदनन्तर शिवराजर्षि से यह बात सुनकर हस्तिनापुर नगर के शृंगाटक, त्रिक यावत् राजमार्गों पर बहुत-से लोग एक-दूसरे से इस प्रकार कहने यावत् बताने लगे-हे देवानुप्रियो! '
शिवराजर्षि जो इस प्रकार की बात कहते यावत् प्ररूपणा करते हैं कि “देवानुप्रियो! मुझे अतिशय ॐ ज्ञान-दर्शन उत्पन्न हुआ है, यावत् इस लोक में सात द्वीप और सात समुद्र ही हैं। इससे आगे द्वीप और समुद्र नहीं हैं। उनकी यह बात कैसे मानी जाए?"
18. Hearing this from Saint-king Shiva the masses on squares, crossings highways and other public places in the city of Hastinapur started talking among themselves-“Beloved of gods ! Saint-king Shiva speaks and preaches thus-'O beloved of gods ! I have gained supreme knowledge and perception with the help of which, I know and see that this Lok (occupied space or universe) has only seven continents and seven oceans; beyond that there are no continents or oceans.' Why should

१९. ते णं कालेणं तेणं समएणं सामी समोसढे। परिसा जाव पडिगया।
[१९] उस काल और उस समय में श्रमण भगवान महावीर स्वामी वहाँ पधारे। परिषद् ने म धर्मोपदेश सुना, यावत् वापस चली गई।
19. During that period of time Bhagavan Mahavir arrived there. People came out. Bhagavan gave his sermon. People dispersed.
