The word of omniscient is called Pravachan.
अठारह हजार शीलांग - शील का अर्थ है - सदाचार । भेद-प्रभेद की दृष्टि से शील के अठारह हजार अंग अर्थात् प्रकार हैं। भेदानुभेद की गणना इस प्रकार की जाती है
(क) श्रमण-धर्म के दस भेद बताए गए हैं।
(ख) इस दस की संख्या को पृथ्वीकाय आदि दश की विराधना न करने की दस भावनाओं से गुणा करने पर १०० गुण हो जाते हैं।
(ग) पृथ्वीकाय आदि की विराधना पांच इन्द्रियों से होती है अतः ५ से गुणा करने पर शील के ५०० भेद हो जाते हैं।
(घ) इस ५०० की संख्या को आहार - संज्ञा, भय - संज्ञा, मैथुन - संज्ञा और परिग्रह - संज्ञा, इन चारों से क्रमश: गुणा करने पर २००० भेद हो जाते हैं।
(ङ) इंस २००० की संख्या को मन-वचन-काय, इन तीन से गुणा करने पर ६००० भेद हो जातें हैं।
(च) इस ६००० की संख्या को, करना, कराना, अनुमोदना इन तीन भेदों से गुणा करने पर १८००० शीलगुणों से युक्त समस्त मुनिवरों को वन्दना करते हैं।

(a) Ascetic conduct is of ten types.
(b) Earth bodied, water bodied and the like are of ten types one resolves not to cause hurt to them.
(c) The violence to living being such as earth bodied and the like is caused by five sense organs. So, by multiplying 100 mentioned in (a) (b), it comes to 500.
(d) There are four instincts instinct for food, fear, sex and possession. Multiply 500 with these four lt becomes 2000.
(e) Activity is with mind, word or deed. So, multiply 2000 in (c) with these three, it becomes 6000.
(f) Further the activity is in 3 ways doing, getting done and appreciating that what is being done. So, the good traits of noble conduct comes to three time of 6000, which is 18000.
