In shape, it (Mount Kailas) resembles a vast cathedral The sides of the mountain are perpendicular and fall sheer for hundreds of feet, the strata hori-zontal. the layers of stone varying slightly in colour, and the dividing lines showing up clear and distinct......which give to the entre mountain the appearance of having been built by giant hands, of huge blocks of reddish stone. अष्टापद की खोज में
ऋषभदेव स्वामी के निर्वाण स्थल पर स्तूप निर्माण की जैन शास्त्रों में जो उल्लेख दिये है उसकी पुष्टि Swen Heden के इस वर्णन से होती है जो उन्होंने कैलाश परिक्रमा करते समय डिरापुक गुफा से आगे चलने पर किया है।
