the charm, about the following verse of Sri Harsha the author of Naishadhiya Kavya :क्रियेत चेत् साधु विभक्ति चिन्ता, व्यक्तिलदा सा प्रथमाभिधेया । या स्वौजसां साधयितुं विलासः, तावत् क्षमानामपदं बहुस्यात् ॥
(terat 3-73) We must, however, give these poets what credit is due to them. Bharavi has at least endowed his verse with partial double entendre and evolved a Simile out of the grammatical terms used by him; Sri Harsha establishes no analogy between his theme and the grammatical process alluded to, but he too at any rate has a double entendre to offer in the terms faufis, sufihi, TPAT, F ATA, though the phrase HTATHIC is somewhat tortuous, Lower down in this category of alliance of poetry and grammar would come a verse of Magha ( Sisupala vadba 14-66 ) and several verses of Sri Harsha (- Naishadhiya. 2-40, 17 118, 17-148, 20-54) because they therein have achieved little beyond a circumlocution wherein grammatical terms are employed to express the sense which usual Sanskrita vocabulary could have presented in a simple, straightforward manner.
The reader may recall here that well known verse in Bhoja prabandha wherein each line of a verse starts off with two words of a Sutra of
