________________ xlvi ŚRĀVAKABHUMI legibility. It has been carefully corrected and the corrections have been marked in sidenotes or footnotes, and syllables, words, clauses and sentences have been added, deleted or replaced. It is, however, abounding in scribal mistakes, so much so, that at some places, the scribe replaces the Sanskrit words by their corrupt forms which has led scholars to believe that the śbh. has been written in Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit.1 In all, there are 268 leaves (obverse and reverse taken together) in the present shape of the MS., which comprise not only the text of $Bh., but that of other bhūmis also. In addition to this, some fragments of the MS. are missing. The first two leaves are completely missing and two more leaves are also lacking. Text missing in the MS : The Sanskrit text begins at the end of the Gotra-bhūmi, the first sub-chapter of the first Yogasthāna. Similarly, a major portion of the second sub-chapter, i.e. the Avatārabhūmi, as well as the portion on Kalyāṇamitratā (the virtuous friendship), is missing. The following portions of the first Yogasthāna are missing : (a) GOTRABHŪMI—The complete portion on gotrasva bhāva and the major portion containing the gotravyavasthāna are lacking. The Sanskrit text begins : इन्द्रियैरविकलता, आयतनगतः प्रसादः, अपरिवृत्तकर्माFaat I Hoera THT 1**** 1. Wayman, Alex, ASM, p. 47-48 sq., Edgerton, BHS Grammar and Dictionary, quoted on p. 47.
