earliest extant Jaina work in Sanskrit and is composed in the Sutra style. It is regarded authoritative both by the Digambaras and the Svetambaras. Its author Umasvati (according to the Digambaras, Umasvami ) lived about 2,000years ago. This Sutra was one of the most widely and deeply studied works in the past as the number of commentaries on it (about forty) shows. Leaving aside the question whether the Agamas are older or later than the Tattvartha Sutra, Upadhyaya Atma Ram ji has been able to find out from the Agamas passages corresponding to all the individual sutras of the Tattvartha.
