योगशास्त्र प्रथम प्रकाश श्लोक १० |दिन और सोने-सी रातें कटने लगीं। एक हजार वर्ष एक दिन के समान व्यतीत हुए। जैसे हाथी एक वन से दूसरे वन में जाता है, वैसे ही भरतराजा गंगादेवी से विदा लेकर खंडप्रपात गुफा में पहुंचा। वहाँ पर भी कृतमालयक्ष की तरह अट्ठम तप करके नाट्यमाल की आराधना की और उसी तरह उसका आठ दिन का महोत्सव किया। फिर सुषेण सेनापति द्वार का कपाट खोलकर उस गुफा में प्रविष्ट हुआ। अतः दक्षिण का द्वार अपने आप खुल गया। उस गुफा के मध्यभाग में से भरतचक्रवर्ती ऐसे ही बाहर निकले जैसे केसरीसिंह निकला हो। उन्होंने गंगा के पश्चिम तट पर सेना का पड़ाव डाला। जिस समय चक्रवर्ती गंगा के किनारे पहुंचा। उस समय नागकुमार देव द्वारा अधिष्ठित नौ निधियां प्रकट होकर कहने लगी-'हे महाभाग! गंगा के मुहाने पर मागधदेश में हम रहती है और आपके भाग्य से आकृष्ट होकर हम यहाँ आपके पास आयी है। आप अपनी इच्छानुसार हमारा उपयोग कीजिए या हमें दान में दीजिए। समुद्र में तो कदाचित् जल खत्म हो सकता है। लेकिन हमारा धन कदापि क्षय नहीं हो सकता। हमारी लंबाई १२ योजन और चौड़ाई ९ योजन है। इतनी विस्तृत होकर भी हम सदा चौकीदार सेवक की तरह आपकी सेवा में रहेंगी। हम भूगर्भ में भी आपके साथ चलेंगी। हम आठ चक्रों पर प्रतिष्ठित हैं और आपको आश्वासन देती हैं कि हमारे ९ हजार आज्ञापालक यक्ष सदा आपकी निधियों को भरते रहेंगे। वायु जैसे महावन को वीरान बना देता है, वैसे ही सुषेण सेनापति गंगा के दक्षिण प्रदेश को वीरान-सा बनाकर लौट आया। इस तरह साठ हजार वर्ष में छह खंड पृथ्वी को जीतकर चक्र निर्दिष्ट मार्ग से उसके पीछे-पीछे चलते हुए ससैन्य भरतचक्रवर्ती अयोध्यानगरी में पहुंचे। दूर-सुदूर भूभागों से बारह वर्ष तक राजाओं ने आ-आकर भरत महाराजा का चक्रवर्तित्व स्वीकार किया।
एक दिन भरत-चक्रवर्ती ने अपने परिवार की सारसंभाल करने वाली बहन सुंदरी के अंग-अंग दुर्बल और हड्डियां निकली हुई देखकर अपने निकटवर्ती सेवकों से कुपित होकर कहा-'सेवको! क्या मेरे यहां भोजन की कमी है? फिर क्या कारण है कि मेरे परिवार की यह महिला अस्थिपंजर मात्र रह गयी है। क्या इसे पोषक खराक नहीं दिया जाता?' सेवको ने उत्तर दिया-स्वामिन्! आप जब से विजययात्रा करने गये हैं, तब से अब तक यह दीक्षा लेने की इच्छा से पारणा रहित आचाम्ल (आयंबिल) तप कर रही है। उसी समय यह समाचार मिला की 'ऋषभदेव भगवान् भूमंडल में विचरण करते-करते अष्टापद-पर्वत पर पधार गये हैं।' यह सुनते ही चक्रवर्ती भरत सुंदरी को साथ लेकर प्रभु को वंदनार्थ गये। प्रभु के उपदेश से चक्रवर्ती की आज्ञा लेकर सुंदरी ने दीक्षा ग्रहण की। इधर चक्रवर्तीपद के राज्याभिषेकमहोत्सव की तैयारियां हो रही थी। भरतेश ने सभी संबंधित राजाओं के पास दूत भेजकर संदेश कहलवाया कि 'अगर वे अपना राज्य सहीसलामत चाहते हैं तो चक्रवर्ती भरत की अधीनता स्वीकार करें। और सेवा में पहुंचे।' यह सुनकर और सब राजाओं ने तो अधीनता स्वीकार कर ली, लेकिन भरत के ९८ भाईयों ने उसकी अधीनता स्वीकार करने से इन्कार कर दिया। उन्होंने परस्पर विचार कर दूत द्वारा भरत को कहलवाया कि 'हम भाई के नाते उनकी सेवा में तैयार हैं. परंतु उनकी आधीनता स्वीकार करके राज्य देने को तैयार नहीं।' राज्य हमें हमारे पिताजी ने दिया है। भरत की सेवा करने से हमें अधिक क्या मिलेगा? जब यमराज आयेगा तब क्या वह उसे रोक सकेगा? शरीर को दुर्बल करने वाली
। वह निग्रह कर लेगा? दुःख देने वाले रोग रूपी शिकार को क्या वह मिटा सकेगा! बढ़ती हुई तष्णा-पिशाची का क्या वह मर्दन कर सकेगा? हमारे द्वारा की गयी सेवा का फल इस रूप में देने में जब भरत समर्थ नहीं है तो हम और वह समान है। हम उनसे किस बात में कम है? अतः हम दोनों का मनुष्यत्व समान है; तो फिर कौन किसके लिए सेव्य है? क्या अपने निजी असंतोष के कारण वह हमसे जबरन राज्य छीनकर राज्यवृद्धि करना चाहता है? बराबरी के भाईयों में यह स्पर्धा ठीक नहीं। हम जिस पिता के पुत्र हैं, वह भी उन्हीं का पुत्र है। अतः संदेशवाहक दूत! आप अपने स्वामी से कह देना-'पिताजी के कहे बिना अपने सहोदर बड़े भाई के साथ हम युद्ध तो करेंगे नहीं; लेकिन हम अपना अपमान सहन नहीं करेंगे?" यों कहकर वे ९८ भाई श्री ऋषभदेव भगवान के पास आये और नमस्कार करके भरत ने दूत द्वारा जो संदेश भिजवाया था, उसके बारे में निवेदन करके कहा कि 'पिताजी! राज्य हमें आपने दिया है; आपका दिया हुआ राज्य भरत को हम कैसे सौंप दें? आगे आप जैसा भी मार्गदर्शन करेंगे, तदनुसार आपकी आज्ञा का पालन करेंगे?' भगवान् ऋषभदेव को तो केवलज्ञान रूपी दर्पण में सारा चराचर जगत् स्पष्ट

Even though we are so vast, we will always remain at your service like a watchman. We will also accompany you underground. We are established on eight chakras and assure you that our 9,000 obedient Yakshas will always replenish your treasures." Hearing this, Chakravarti Bharat, taking Sundari with him, went to pay his respects to the Lord. Following the Lord's teachings, Sundari, with the Chakravarti's permission, took initiation. Meanwhile, preparations were underway for the Chakravarti's coronation ceremony. Bharatesh sent messengers to all the concerned kings, conveying the message, "If they want their kingdom safe and sound, they should accept the authority of Chakravarti Bharat and come to serve him." Hearing this, all the kings accepted his authority, except for Bharat's 98 brothers. They discussed among themselves and sent a message to Bharat through a messenger, saying, "As brothers, we are ready to serve him, but we are not willing to accept his authority and give him the kingdom.
