1. The word in this has two meanings; it means 'after' or 'now,' i. e., after giving a complete treatment. of Sanskrit grammar; it also indicates the opening of a new topic, viz., Prakrit. Hemacandra's system of grammar consists of eight chapters; the first seven deal with Sanskrit Grammar and the last chapter .with six dialects of Prakrit, viz., माहाराष्ट्री, शौरसेनी, मागधी, . पैशाची, चूलिकापैशाची and अपभ्रंश. The word Prakrit is derived from which, according to the author, means Sanskrit. संस्कृतानन्तरं च Hemacandra classifies Prakrit words into तद्भव, तत्सम and देशी. He does not treat of तत्सम here as he has already done so in the preceding chapters. He does not speak off words here, but discusses only "words of both types, सिद्ध and साध्यमान. Prakrit does not use ऋ, ऋ, ऌ, लु, ऐ, औ, ङ्, ञ, श, ष, विसर्ग, प्लुत, consonant without vowel, dual and Dative plural.

3. H. says: The Prakrit of the s is called an which also generally follows the rules of Prakrit given here. By आर्ष H understands अर्धमागधी.
